Yes, it’s broken. I tried to install it today and it took my blog down. On uninstalling found several locked files that won’t budge, but removed all the rest via ftp & blog is working again. Awkward few moments, that.
Steer clear.

I had used the automatic upgrade plugin suggested above and got exactly the same error message.
Have just replaces shortcodes.php with a new one from a copy of 2.5.1 and now my blog doesn’t load at all. Urgl!
Any suggestions?

I was having trouble with this too. These:
brendadada.com/blog/xmlrpc.php https://www.brendadada.com/blog/xmlrpc.php https://www.brendadada.com/blog/xmlrpc.php
didn’t work, but this did: https://www.brendadada.com/xmlrpc.php
