Same. Exact. Issue – honestly I really dislike this new update 5.0 Gutenberg business, so buggy and so badly implemented. Grr. Makes it so difficult to edit anything now – and increases total editing time thrice-fold, so not worth it, am falling out of love with WordPress at an alarming rate.

This same issue is happening to me and I’ve read three forum threads on it now. I am having the same exact issue with the 28 days being checked and I have tried all of the same strategies suggested. (disabling all plugins and themes, putting in 999999 days)

Nothing has helped or worked.

I am using HostMonster… also, I two websites. Only one is having this problem.

Dear seedsca, you have me worried now about whether I may have missed some sort of code ‘injection’ into my site files as well. I’m still learning how to operate a fully-functioning website and am not exactly sure how to check for this. I ran site scans and removed/improved upon what I could but I still worry about what I may have missed, or what my security plugins may have missed, haha. May I ask how exactly you check for this kind of thing and how you discovered you had random files added? ??

I posted the question to the studiopress community and got an answer. (just to keep this thread updated for anyone in a similar position as myself). They gave me this answer, and you’re right Davood, it would seem as though, with this fix, I would have to create a new theme file with custom code rather than just embed code in the functions.php

“You can customize which buttons display on TinyMCE editor in WordPress. Here’s a link to some code that can do it for you:

Keep in mind, WordPress is changing the editor to Gutenberg in Ver. 5, scheduled for release this Spring. Customizing the buttons will only work until then, unless they WodPress developers give us some way to keep TinyMCE around for a while.”

Given this response, I may just wait and see what the new update has in store rather than going through all this hassle if it is going to change in a few short months. Also, I took a look at the code for this fix and, unless I’m mistaken, it also looks like it would strip out other functionality like being able to underline and bold, which is not what I’m looking for – I only wish to disable the header 1, 2, and 3, options. Seems like more of a headache than I intend to get involved with so I will wait for this update and if the update doesn’t fix it, then I will try my luck with finding a solution again after that (haha).

Oh wow ok, that is unfortunate to hear haha. I have always really liked the Genesis framework. I have used www.remarpro.com for a few years before I got Genesis and I always had hassles/issues with things, but since I got Genesis (and a few Genesis plugins to edit the site with) I have really enjoyed it. I sure hope this current issue isn’t a Genesis bug. I will take your suggestion and ask them though and let you know, in time, how it goes. Thank you very much ??

I disabled my W3TC plugin but I still see the heading options when I click to add a new post, so I’m guessing this isn’t the issue, darn. Hmm… it’s looking like maybe I should just get the plugin after all ??

I am using the W3 total cache plugin which does caching and has a CDN tab. I am not as tech savvy as I would like to be but am avidly trying to learn haha! I am not sure what needs edited or changed in this plugin in order to get my custom code to work, hmm – any ideas?

Haha no problem! I put this coding into my functions.php file but it didn’t seem to work – is the plugin necassary to use along with it? Is there no way to forego a plugin and just insert a code snippet to achieve this? :/

Thank you for the replies! I would rather not use yet another plugin if at all possible, I already have about 20 in use haha, which I feel is already in excess, but perhaps not?

I don’t use anything but the ‘paragraph’ option so I don’t need the other options at all.

Is there no way to simply plug some form of code into the theme files? I am fairly familiar with using the theme files, I do have a child theme in use and have some light editing/customization in use already.

Thank you for the quick response. I am the only user/admin on the site so I suppose I must have been hacked then. Yet, I still don’t understand how they were able to change the username, and as far as I can currently tell, nothing else has been touched or changed except for the username, which is a sigh of relief, yet still quite odd. I am in the process of creating a new username and transferring my data now, following along with your above suggestions. Thank you! I also ran my site through the sucuri site scan but it says my site is not blacklisted and has no malware or spam. Definitely an odd occurrence to have this happen but hopefully no harm was done.

Also, I already have and am using the wordfence security plugin so that makes this whole situation incredibly more confusing. The only change I know of to make at this time (after creating a new username and transferring my content) is to simply make a new, stronger password. Other than that, I am at a loss. :/
