Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Magazine Basic] MagazineBasic 3.0.3 – Breaking ChangesThe Magazine Basic update was a disaster for me. I was doing the WordPress security update for an old client for free, and I unwittingly updated the Magazine Basic theme at the same time.
This destroyed my client’s web site, and now I have to restore it for free.
I have spent hours twiddling with settings. None of the layout sizes matches the old one, so the client’s static front page (created outside wordpress, no longer works. The CSS is different: in order to make the look and feel match the old web site, I will have to customize the CSS pages – which will just break again on the next update! The old navigation menu no longer fits.
The maker of this theme was really cavalier about the time people would have to spend rebuilding sites out after this update. I will never use Magazine Basic for a client again.
Is it possible to delete this post? No one seems to be interested in helping me, and it’s attracting spam from SEO companies instead.

In reply to: Search does not work at all!My search box stopped working after I upgraded to 2.7.1, and for now I put a Google Search Box in its place.
I wish some of the search-related plug-ins like Search Anything would also offer code to place a new box. :-/

In reply to: Search Box won’t align leftThanks for your response – that’s what it looks like to me, too.
But my confusion is that everything else is aligning left. The same CSS elements that align everything else left won’t work on the search box whether it’s the WP box or Google. =/

In reply to: Index Page of Blog BrokeFixed!
I had to deactivate two plug-ins:
WP-Email and WP-Print, both by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan. Neither of these plug-ins were working correctly even though they showed as updated on the Plug-ins page. I’ll look for some other plug-ins to replace them.
Replacing the blog page reminded me that WP 2.7.1 ruined the font-size on my blogroll and link lists. More to fix. T_T

In reply to: Index Page of Blog BrokeYes, now it’s showing one post. I’m not sure at what point that one post started showing because I had to clean out my browser cache again. =/
Unfortunately it’s still broken because it only shows the latest post, not the index page with a list of blog posts. ??

In reply to: Index Page of Blog BrokeReplacing index.php from a new copy of wordpress didn’t work. ??
I also suddenly got the option to automatically re-install with automatic update today (I didn’t seem to have that option yesterday – AU just told me I had the most current version). I did the re-install, and I’m still getting the Tripod page. ??

In reply to: Index Page of Blog BrokeHi there, thanks for the reply. Oops, I see I provided the link to the site instead of the blog page. The blog index page should be here.
I did try searching the DB for tripod, and I’m still looking for hacked files. This hacking occured a month after I installed 2.7.1 and took various security precautions, so obviously I missed something the first time. ??
The path to the Default Page is right in the Dashboard Settings. Is there also a file I should look at for this?
I haven’t tried replacing index.php because I don’t see any hack code in it, but I will give that a try.

In reply to: Admin Account Can’t Post CommentsDoh! I found the problem!
Posts from my account are going into Askimet! I checked “not spam” on one. Is there anything else I can do to innoculate my own account from Askimet?

In reply to: Admin Account Can’t Post CommentsI can get into phpMyAdmin and the tables. Is there a value I can change somewhere to fix this?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Admin Account Can’t Post CommentsHmmm – it shouldn’t be out of date yet. The site is only a few months old. I’m also very nervous about doing anything to it because I wasn’t the one who originally installed it, and the site uses non-standard templates that have caused all sorts of problems.
I’ll look at the role manager plugin and see if I can just add that. *crosses fingers*
