This was asked recently. This is an opinion based default, I conducted a poll as which option to choose, most of the users selected “Expanded” by default.

I have also noticed it long back but didn’t update the styling as none of the users reported or had a problem with it.

Now I’m in the process of updating/fixing few other features/bugs in the upcoming release, in that I will also address this styling issue.

Hopefully, there will be a new release by April Mid.

I will add it in the coming release, this has been in the to-do list for a while now, sorry.

rename it to “Admin Collapse Subpages & Subcategories”

This may be too long I suppose, I will try to make sure that the plugin comes up in the search even with “Subcategories” keyword using plugin description, tags and search filters, if it still doesn’t appear I will rename the plugin.

Hmm! That’s good point, I never noticed it. Thanks for pointing it out. I will push the update within 2-3 weeks after regression.

Now the page is in the basket and all the children are hidden. At least in the admin area, the frontend still shows them.

When you say the page is in the basket, do you mean in the trash?

but most users will not recognize that they do not see all pages. This is a big UX issue.

I didn’t understand this, what most users won’t recognize, do you mean that they think that child pages are also deleted?

I have added this long back to the repo I maintain on github in a different branch and took feedback(conducted a poll) from the users who are using this plugin whether to collapse it by default or set a option field. The response I got from 104 users out of 128, is not to include it by default so I didn’t push it to the wordpress plugin repo.

Great to know that the issue is solved.

I’m unable to reproduce the issue, I can see plus and minus icons properly. Please check this.
