I was using the /index.php/ permalink struture because I was on an IIS server.

This issue has been resolved after moving to an Apache server and changing my permalink structure.

Hi folks, I had solved my problem by re-uploading the files. I understand this doesn’t work for eveyone, and this may be something else to try:

Change your FTP program.

I was using Filezilla to upload the files at one point, and was having problems with my installation. After multiple deleting and re-uploading, I tried uploading with Dreamweaver (my only other FTP uploader.) It worked then.

I’m not sure why it would be different, I know Filezilla is a reputable program and I like it a lot. But for some reason it wasn’t completely uploading all the files or completing them.

I don’t know, just another idea for those still having problems.

I can confirm that re-uploading the files fixed this problem for me. I had to do it a few times, trying different combinations of deleting and replacing more and more files until I just ended up doing a complete replacement of all the files.

Working now. Thanks to everyone who has helped in this thread, and good luck to those who still have the problem.

I just re-uploaded all the wp-admin and wp-includes files, and the issue still remains.

Anyone have any ideas?

I also tried deactivating all plugins, and the issue still exists.

The browser is not completely taken over. I can click links inside the WordPress admin to navigate away from the ‘Write’ page.

@ecaron: Oops, you WERE talking about wp-config.php, but you SAID wp-settings.php so I got confused. Sorry about that.

I am having the same issue. I added the line, and it wouldn’t let me in to wp-admin. Commenting out or removing the line allows access.

I have a larger issue with my wp-admin page being inaccessible at the moment, as well.

I am having this same error after having upgraded to 2.5.1.

Only the 1, 2, 3 … and Next links are wrong. I’m getting just this:

I found the problem. I was using an FTP program to upload the files (Filezilla) and for some reason it wasn’t doing the job despite looking like it did.

Maybe I had a setting or two that was off. But I tried another program (Dreamweaver CS3) and things are working just fine now.

Moral of the story: The files didn’t upload correctly.
