In reply to: Strange icon on my pagesYou’re welcome James. Sorry I didn’t post that sooner, but as WP was giving me other problems, too, that I had to fix right away.

In reply to: Strange icon on my pagesActually, it was a setting in a WP Social Media plugin. Once I found it I just changed which icons I wanted to show.
I’m guessing you saw it after I made the change. Sorry I didn’t get back here to post. This is resolved, but I don’t see the box to click below.
Thanks for taking the time to help James.

In reply to: Strange message preventing me access to my WP SiteI also want to commend the moderators and members here on the WordPress support site for the same thing. No matter how ignorant or elementary my questions have been, you have all been so helpful and respectful. I can’t tell you how much that means. Thanks.

In reply to: Strange message preventing me access to my WP SiteWho is responsible for upgrading to PHP 5.4? Would that be my hosting service or WordPress?
I’ll contact the plugin creator as you suggest.

In reply to: Strange message preventing me access to my WP SiteHi James:
That sounds like good news, but it would seem to me that WordPress would take priority over a plugin, and the plugin wouldn’t work rather than take down the entire site. I learn something every day.
I gave this a try. The first method was beyond my comprehension. But the second, using FTP was simple enough. Found the bad plugin, EZ PayPal plugin. Hope they fix it soon. Thanks

In reply to: Can't log into my WP homepageThis wasn’t a log in problem, actually. It was a homepage redirect problem, which was solved by deleting a conflicting and unnecessary index.html file.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageAha! The Index.html file from the iWeb site installation was the culprit. Now, what I don’t understand is how it suddenly took over and the index.php from the WP site was ignored.
But, that was the problem, however it got started.
Thank you all so much for your help. I’m learning so much from mistakes, and all the suggestions, correct or not, have helped me learn that much more about WP site management.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageIf I change themes could I get rid of this.
Can I designate another page as the home page, to try to get rid of this? I’m afraid the permalink of https://adhocgroup.net will be a problem, and I’d like to keep that as my URL.
Can I reinstall WP without deleting or overwriting my site? I really don’t want to start over at this point.
I tried reinstalling from a backup, but the problem persists. I can’t even guess what might have caused this redirecting.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageI must have checked that when I last edited .htaccess because the file was listed along with the others. But, as I said, there was no reference to the URLs, either one, in that file.
I simply can’t get the home url to quit redirecting to the old home page.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageThanks SAMWM,
No, there is no reference to the URL at all in the .htaccess file.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageI do have the FTP file open to that directory on the server, so if there’s a way to access it from there, maybe that’s easier.

In reply to: Can't visit my homepage ~ redirects to old homepageThanks for responding. I can’t remember how to access the .htaccess file. If you know how to do this and can explain it, that would be helpful.
I tried editing the files according to the article, Changing the Site Url, but all that did was make it impossible to access my site at all. Luckily I got back in. The changes I made didn’t do the trick.
Can you remind me how to get to the .htaccess file? I seem to remember using the option key (Mac) and getting to it through cPanel. But that’s all I can remember.

In reply to: Can't log into my WP homepageIn case my explanation wasn’t clear, trying to go to the correct address, it acts like a redirect and then adds the incorrect extensions onto the URL, then goes to a 404 error page.

In reply to: Need to remove security folder around wp-adminHi Ramesh,
Thanks for responding so quickly.
I’ve already added the new IP addresses to .htaccess, and the tech support just showed me how to remove the the password protection for wp-access.
But, since that wasn’t the method I used to set it up, which was to set up a security folder around the wp-admin folder, I’m not sure it was removed. I never was able to see that security folder on the FTP directory.
I’ve already got the FTP directory open, but the .htaccess file is hidden.
So, there’s two things I need to know how to do: remove the folder and see the hidden files.
