In reply to: I tried to upgrade to 3.01 too, and here is MY error msg.Uhmrhm…I’ve done so much installing and re-installing and overwriting and downgrading and upgrading and chasing files around…LOL! Maybe the best option would be to clear it off yet again (what’s this now, the 11th time? I’ve lost count…) and give it another go??
At least now I know how to hack CHMOD, so if need be, I can also do that…!

In reply to: I tried to upgrade to 3.01 too, and here is MY error msg.Oh…so I do need it to be inside the “includes” folder, correct? Well, I’m sure it could just be transferred in. Hm, I wish I could read these errors the way you guys do…! ??
And I quote you from earlier: wp-settings.php cannot include the script /home/a1958187/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/pluggable-deprecated.php.
Should I be looking for “wrong” code in the wp-settings.php file?

In reply to: 3.01 update stallsI’ve never had a problem with auto-update before either, but this time all I got was a white page of death where all I saw was a msg stating that the update was happening, which it was not…..no updates whatsoever. This was why I tried manual installation. Another total failure =(
Yeah, I’m for just working elsewhere and meantime waiting to see if the NEXT version will work for us…

In reply to: I tried to upgrade to 3.01 too, and here is MY error msg. There is a pluggable.php file, but I didn’t find ‘pluggable-deprecated’. And the pluggable.php is perfectly readable.
Seems I may have seen the ‘deprecated’ file on the other server I’m using (a bit of shared space), so ASAP I’ll run over and look there. Not entirely sure about the permissions over there, either…
Ooh! It’s there, sure enough! And it’s readable. “Deprecated pluggable functions from past WordPress versions. You shouldn’t use these functions and look for the alternatives instead. The functions will be removed in a later version…Deprecated functions come here to die…” etc.
Permissions at the shared subdomain space look OK too.

In reply to: Importing not working1and1? Hmm. Seems I’ve heard of that *does a check* Yeah, I see it’s a type of webhosting. No, I’m actually using two separate domains but that one isn’t one of them ??
Mine’s a hobby kind of site and maybe not worth spending $30 on. I’m doing well on dot COM and may just have to remain there…even without the bells ‘n whistles they have here on dot Org.
I wanted to use those domains too, for what they were meant for. But, I can find other uses ??

In reply to: I tried to upgrade to 3.01 too, and here is MY error msg.Oh! Right…and that does seem to be in order… ??
Sooooo. What now…?

In reply to: I tried to upgrade to 3.01 too, and here is MY error msg.Maybe I should re-upload all of the “includes” folder as some users seem to be doing? Recently when I got version 3 running, i had troubles with FTPing “simplepie”…lots of troubles…and of course I had to configure the config.php file.
I did notice something in passing, during the latest botched install, the file permission numbers appeared to be different, beginning with a 6 rather than a 7? Can’t remember the exact number, 644 maybe, and normally we see 755.
Hum, post.php, okay, I’ll go and look for that one… Got it, it looks perfectly readable, at least in the downloaded folder. Will have to go back to the server I have it on, to see what it looks like in there.
It wasn’t even in the folder! So I uploaded post.php and tried again to login. Now I get this:
Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/a1958187/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/pluggable-deprecated.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/a1958187/public_html/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 180
Okay, I see in Filezilla there are lots of 644 permissions. Shouldn’t they all be 755? I’m not very knowledgeable about this…

In reply to: Back to WP.org,, but a new and strange Error MsgSamuel, I think the problem is resolved…again fingers crossed! Apparently my FileZilla was the culprit, refusing the file again and again and again, and etc… I’ve been hearing about other users having trouble with FZ and got to thinking about trying a net-based ftp service. I did…and held my breath…and before I knew it, the file had uploaded in its complete form, size correct… I logged into my blog and THAT problem seems to be gone. The Feeds appear to be OK now. ??
So now that this is out of the way, now I gotta concern myself with the memory and importing troubles… ??

In reply to: Importing not workingThanks for the heads-up, enjoybirth, before I wasted more time trying that approach. This saved me some extra hassling…been enough of that…

In reply to: Another “long post won’t save” issueMatt and Esmi, no worries about ToS, mine is just a hobby site, no money being made or exchanged ??
And, geez I almost forgot *looks back via Filezilla at Quickconnect urls*…yep, my WP on the host I (stupidly) show the name of above, has been deleted. I really felt like the best thing was to give up.
HOWEVER…another pal who provided me some space last winter for WP got back to me and has now given me the whole domain, whoooo!! Feels like Christmas or my BD. WP was gone from there, I guess he removed it thinking I wasn’t going to use it. It just took me awhile to learn how and to get going… But I did, finally. And I reinstalled it at his webspace.
So, now, I don’t have that particular error msg anymore, I can login. But I have what shows on a different thread here, a big problem pertaining to the “simplepie.php” file. “Simple as pie”? HAH. ‘:-\
Will find link to thread, and post url here.

In reply to: Back to WP.org,, but a new and strange Error MsgWell, you know, that would have been my next related question. I am having a heck of a time with the simplepie.php file! I use FileZilla (and I love it), but the aforementioned file seems to be trying to upload over and over, and over and over, and over again! I watched yesterday during the transfer, and the location of the file on the remote server was showing the correct file size…then soon after that, incorrect size, like it was shrinking!?? Then the numbers would increase again to its correct file size…then again, shrinking numbers…VERY weird!
I also tried to re-upload (overwriting) the entire “includes” folder that this file resides in…having read somewhere that doing this solved someone’s similar problem. Didn’t help me at all, in fact it caused me to have Fatal Errors. Sooo, I deleted all of the WP directory, then re-installed…and got logged in, but now I have this issue with that one particular file.
Otherwise, the blog seems to be OK (except for memory issues discussed elsewhere at the forum). But please, if anyone can advise what to do to resolve my troubles with the simplepie.php file, I would be eternally grateful!!! It isn’t even a huge file. But I can’t seem to upload it…

In reply to: Importing not workingYep, there are several ways to deal with the import problem…and several warn that they may not even be possible…
I’m for trying the gz file… ??
But, I still don’t know exactly where to upload it to?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Importing not workingHi, I’ve been trying to do the same, and my XLR file is a little over the 2 MB limit. So I’ve been getting this error (probably due to file size issues):
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini.
I’ve been studying the above link provided by James, but I’m a little bit lost (being rather a novice in WP). I’m considering creating a gz file with 7Zip. But where exactly would I transfer the file to?
