    And I looked at plugins, but on this “infant” site, I only have the two default ones and they aren’t even activated yet…

    Yep, well, that was what I did, and still had a couple of files that apparently didn’t upload correctly. I’m on dialup so any kind of file transfer can be iffy.

    However…I finally got everything ironed out! The login page showed up and…well, I remembered the login name but for the life of me I can’t remember my password. I was only logged in one time a few days ago, and then began having all kinds of other problems. So, I can be forgiven for not remembering what password I used during that very brief first login.

    I’ve been trying to get the confirmation link via email so that I can go about creating a new password, but so far nothing has come in!! ??

    EDIT: Still nothing, but I racked my brain and finally found the right password in among the brain cells…Now I can login, but…here is one of those persistent Error Msgs still plaguing me! Something seems to be wrong with “dashboard.php”, but even after repeatedly re-uploading it, I’m still getting this…

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_widget_rss_output() in /home/a8376683/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php on line 805

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_widget_rss_output() in /home/a8376683/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php on line 841

    I considered that, and suspected it would be the next suggestion. Right, I’ll go do that right now. ??

    I wonder why a downloaded copy of WP sitting on the hard drive might cause problems by not being a “fresh” copy? Does it get stale or moldy due to an expired shelf life date?

    Just kidding… Mine might have gotten bugs in it due to the hot weather… ??

    Well, since this install of WP is totally new and all it has is a title…I kinda doubt that it’s a plugin or theme.

    So, anyway, I did go ahead and delete the “includes” folder and reinstall it. Now, I’m getting THIS persistent error (and, yep, I reuploaded that particular file in the main dir a couple of times with same result):

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function create_initial_taxonomies() in /home/a8376683/public_html/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 170

    @epymetheus says: What I usually do is change the password in wp-config and on my permissions on MySQL.

    Okay, how would I do that, please? I know about the config file, but where would I get to permissions in MySQL? (I’m a total novice at mysql, all I know how to do is set the ID info). Are you advising to change the two passwords and make them different from each other?

    also: double-check wp-options table on my MySQL database

    Where do I find that? – thanx

    [Edit!] Oh, I found it in PHPAdmin… But I don’t know what to do with it, I’m afraid I’ll break something, lol

    Okay, my blog “returned” but I’m not sure why it did a disappearing act in the first place. I have a server that’s a bit funky at times… I’ve not had trouble with plugins so far, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. I will certainly make a note of your advice, however, in case all else fails! – Thanx

    (Wish I could edit my posts here!)

    OK, other probs with that theme, firstly not all the graphics were loaded. Went back, found the theme again, tried to reload and reinstall. Not sure what’s happening but the same problems were showing up. AND some new ones, crazy things happening at the top nav bar area.

    So, I changed to Colchis as you will see at my link, it’s fine and I’m good. Nice layout, nice colors, everything more compact than before. But I’d still like to know how to change a huge header text if I run into the same trouble later…I’m sure I’ll go off switching themes again some day, as I like a ‘seasonal’ look…

    Now you mention it, “Kubrick” was part of the install at one time, was it not? That and the yellow one “Old Yolk” something-or-other, I just saw that one again somewhere, recently, I’d almost forgotten.

    Yeah, I’m satisfied with the “beginner” themes, and I’m still using Thematic in its most basic state. I’ve never seen any other theme that quite comes up to its standards and its flat-out good looks, even in this totally basic format. I can’t make heads or tails out of the directions for changing it…

    The more I look around, the more I realize that I was right in my guesstimate that I personally ought to stay with a minimalist kind of look, since I have a lot of “reading” text and also lots of graphics too, which need showcasing rather than competition with fancy distractions. All I need is quick loading, clean dropdowns, tidy widget listings, easy to read fonts, and I’m happy! ??

    I totally agree, jj, I’m not a developer at all, no way no how, and I’m just experimenting with certain themes for their basic attractive qualities that suit my simple needs. I’m using Thematic right now and IMO it is wonderful, but I haven’t done a thing with it other than setting up with a very basic website. I’m sure such themes (2010, Thematic, Hybrid, Sandbox, NoCSS) with that kind of potential can do a million different amazing things. But I guess I’m like the toddler at Christmas who receives an expensive toy but then ends up playing with the box!! LOL

    I never did figure out what a “loop” is, and I just barely have a glimmer of comprehension of what a “child theme” means!

    Thanks, esmi!! Let’s hope I can get all the advice and direction I need there. I love this theme and even though I’ve futzed around with other good ones, I keep coming back to Thematic.

    Amazingly enough…the last time I reverted back to it, ‘Tangerine’ was actually working! WEIRD. It certainly took long enough to start happening!

    Now to make the font a little larger, it looks lost on all the white.

    Thanks, Sam! That was something else that I, too, have been wondering about. ??

    Thread Starter blueamulet

    (@blueamulet)

    WAHOO!! Thanks, that worked! I wasn’t sure where to find the file, but I got in there and just kept looking… And, I learned something! GO, ME.

    Now another question (it’s brief, I promise), how to change that blocky header so lacking in personality…? How to change it in 2010 and Voidy have been discussed around here. Seems to me every theme is different, I can never track down the tag for the main header. And the Google font plugin can’t find it either…!

    During about the last 15 minutes I’ve discovered that “analytics.hosting24” is dragging badly! Whatever that is… My website looks fine too; and I can log in and I can see my HTML preview box on a post…but I cannot get the regular “View” anymore. Been working in here for maybe 90 minutes and up till then everything seemed fine. Not now, though! \:-(

    Well, I’m giving it up for now, be back later.

    Thread Starter blueamulet

    (@blueamulet)

    Yes, I know…I just wanted to be sure I could alter the final css line for “menu.”

    Here is how the Voidy logo was changed recently–I assume I could do much the same with the above css in “Twenty Ten”:

    #logo #h1{
    float:left;
    font-family: ‘Tangerine’, arial, serif;
    font-size:48px;
    }

    But, I’m only guessing…as I know almost nothing about stylesheets… The plugin should take care of that, but obviously finding typical H1, H2, etc. is sometimes fiddley…

    Thread Starter blueamulet

    (@blueamulet)

    So, pardon me if I sound like a dim bulb, *Lol* but where it says “font-family” could I just insert the API link (we girls all like the ‘Tangerine’ font!)?
