Final note: it turns out the images came in just fine. So did all comments. It’s working brilliantly! Thanks everybody!

    Holy crap, it worked! Thanks!

I ended up 777ing a whole bunch of stuff, but I assume that’s not very wise, so I should change it back. Is 745 the suggested setting for all the folders?

I suppose I have an awful lot of tweaking to do now too. It looks like my images didn’t all come in right (they’re floating over the text). Grrrr!

Thanks for the tip. Tried it. No grins. (Didn’t work.)

Also, I just tried to upload a file through the upload thingy on the “write post” page. While it will save and display text that I write, when I tried to upload an image I got the exact same error message.

Methinks it might be a permissions problem, but it looks like the folders all have write permission. I’m pretty rusty on permissions stuff, but the wp-content folder is drwxr-sr-x (all three wp- folders have those permissions).

    Is that correct?

Hmmm. There is no wp-content/uploads. The only things in the wp-content directory are the “plugins” and “themes” folders, and the index.php file.

Is there supposed to be another folder? It’s not in the unzipped installation zip.

I hadn’t seen that until just now, but I don’t think it will help. That seems to be a fix for WP doing a bad job of importing. My problem is that it won’t import at all.

When I try to import (i.e., upload the file) it grinds away for about two minutes and then comes back with this error message:
“The uploaded file could not be moved to .”

What does that mean? And does it mean the file is in place, but not moved to … some unnamed place?

So… am I the only person who can’t import my Typepad blog? Is there some other way to get help on this?
