You know what…not related to the topic, but anyway, the wysiwyg/Rich Text Editor doesnt seem to want to recognize the border tag. I just tried inserting a border and voila, it goes away upon publishing…yeah *weird*…really, (even if you get it to appear).

Now when will we get a good WordPress wysiwyg? Even though my hosting doesnt give me these problems, I think changing hosts just because “my WordPress cannot display my wysiwyg editor” would be quite extreme. My sympathies, really hope for the day WordPress has a good quality wysiwyg.

“In order to fool fantastico in re version upgrades, you simply change the version number in the fantversion.php file.”

I didnt know that, which means to say that your host could fool you regarding your Fantastico version?

If I installed via Fantastico on my current host but later I want to change hosts, will it be a simple matter to just download the database and plug it into the other host, set the wp-config file and my WordPress should work on the other host? Having second thoughts on this.

    Thanks for notifying, ihad…

The wysiwyg editor is one of the few things in WordPress that isnt its strongpoint from last time till now.

Joomla and Drupal are 2 cms with much better working versions of tinymce and fckeditor that doesnt give as much problems.

I guess I’ll use an external wysiwyg editor and then copy paste the code into the WP editor. Hope the WordPress team can give some short term and long term solutions regarding a good workable, and (not so basic) wysiwyg editor for WordPress.

IMHO, the wysiwyg editor in WordPress really needs some major overhaul..its long overdue.

Thanks!! Feel like a dummy now…I wonder how it got unchecked, though.

Great, great themes. Who would have thought WordPress was capable of that? Well done.

I personally would like a WordPress magazine theme that looks like those cool magazine themes at ijoomla.com

Yeah, those ijoomla themes look great to me, except maybe they have the joomla look even there.

Well, whatever you do, I support you, bro. And if you can start a business creating such great magazine themes with WordPress, go for it and I could even be your customer. ??

    Good luck.

P.S: Widgets are very important, and 3 columns are essential for a magazine type layout (my view)

My experience so far of WP 2.1 is its rather much faster than 2.0.7
That’s a big improvement for me but I’m sitting down for the moment, well actually its been days…maybe things can clear up?

I am a fan of Nybbles SideBar Modules, and it looks like SBM wont be working on WP 2.1 at least till the author fixes it, but he has said he is busy so…

I really liked SBM. (Side Bar Modules)

Also, Advanced Wysiwig plugin doesnt work in 2.1 among others. The theme I had been customizing, doesnt take too well to Sidebar widgets, but does fine so far on SBM (which doesnt work on 2.1)

So in conclusion, should I go with 2.0.7 and then maybe upgrade in 6 months time? If WP 2.0 branch will be supported till 2010, then is it really necessary? I dont want to regret my decision cos the situation of a live site is not the same as a test site ;]

Although upgrading later will be harder than installing it clean now.

Thanks! It must be cool for all the news to just show on my blog without me doing a thing…I heard of Magpie RSS, but dunno if its the best or even usable for WordPress.

Tsguitar, thanks…is that your blog (Ozpolitics)?

    Moshu, thanks for that link.

Time for me to start learning more..RSS is kinda confusing right now:-)

    Oh well,
If a reply is going to take forever if ever at all…….

Anyway, I have managed to make a banner appear in the right side using alot of CSS…even by creating a new division in the CSS…

The problem is I could get it working earlier… but now I have forgotten what exact coding should be specified in the header.php

I tried adding (this is a sample):

    <div id=”headerimg2″><A HREF = “https://whatever.com<IMG SCR = “https://whatever.com/whatever.gif&#8221; WIDTH = “xx” HEIGHT = “xx” ALIGN = “RIGHT” BORDER = “0” HSPACE = “2” VSPACE = “2”></A>

    Just below the </div> <!– end #header–>

But the code above only breaks up the theme…I’m now wondering how in the world I could get it working earlier, because I erased that code and replaced with something else….must have been slightly different, I just dont remember it at all..

    Anyone?

So much for the fuss, I figured out that the permalinks get updated automatically, once I change the blog and wordpress URI as https://mysite/blog
and use permalinks custom structure as /blog/2006/12/31/postname

The only problem remaining is how to redirect everyone to the /blog automatically? Although I fixed the posts to follow the URLs like above and starting with /blog/post-name…

yet https://mysite/ will show a 404 page and doesnt redirect to the /blog/ directory….

Can someone advise? Is it a totally htaccess file thing? Thanks in advance and have a Happy New Year

although I want it to display as

    https://mydomain/blog

as the homepage of the blog.

Can someone help me out? Thanks
