In reply to: Local Site InstallationThanks, bcworkz. I’ve moved closer to my goal, but am stumbling again.
I have wordpress installed in a new site folder in the www directory.
I clicked the myapache link in the wamp server, to create an alias. That I’ve done, but when I put in the entry at the second prompt, I get the response that no such link or server or whatever exists.
For the record, the new file in my www directory that I installed the wp in is pandeetah. Under the apache link, as an alias I entered pandeetah (localhost/pandeetah/) but when I put where it is to connect to, I get the response that the entry I chose doesn’t exist. Thanks!

In reply to: Data BaseThanks for your help. I did make sure the user – yours truly – has all privileges. I still seem to be stuck at same spot – Error making databases connection. I noticed this time that there were a few databases that I never sought to have, as well as users – usually with same name as that database – that I never sought. To what oage might I go for one-click install. I must admit I get confused my number of options presented at once.

In reply to: Can’t log into my websiteI run in to the same problem frequently. I have less difficulty getting into wp via my webhost. I found that a password I preserved in email form wouldn’t work for me when I tried to respond to your query. So I had to get a new one. That is something about wp that needs to be worked on. A while ago I complained about passwords not working, and was told that they have a few different portals with separate passwords. The process is unduly confusing.

In reply to: Why Word Press?I’m the person who posed this question a couple of days ago. I haven’t suddenly fallen in love with WP but the answers have been useful. Thanks.
Best suggestion I got was that I was in a subject – rather deep – without having the necessary prereqs, and that’s something I hadn’t learned from any other sources.

In reply to: Multiple InstallsThanks for responding. My biggest problem seems to be confusing passwords I use with my web host with the one I use for wordPress. This is more a functional issue on my part, I must admit, but once I get started I often confuse entry pages with one another. Slowing down on my part is part of the solution, certainly, but I’m hoping for a user interface which does more than shake violently if I have the wrong password. Yes, I DO write the passwords down in secure locations, but on the user interface I’d love to see a greater differentiation between ports of entry so that I’m less confused. I’ve learned to keep an eye out for possible solutions when I encounter problems, and feel willing to be part of a solution. Is there some group within these forums that focuses on the user interface and the screens that come up?
Thank you!
