Admittedly it took longer than I thought to get to this but you can find this fix in trunk or wait until the next version.
Thanks!
the word error is due to a lockout. Perhaps due to too many 404s? You will need to check the logs to tell for certain.
In some cases, namely if you have a lot of missing content, BWPS could affect your SEO in that it can actually lockout Google or another legitimate bot from your site. That said, turning off intrusion detection would take of this issue (I’ve never actually heard of it happening but it is a possibility). Other than that there would be no negative affect on SEO.
Can you email me at info [at] bit51 [dot] com?
@garethhodgen that looks as if your upgrade failed to download everything. Please try downloading all the files and putting them in your fbetter-wp-security folder. While rare, this does sometimes happen with the WordPress repository.
@20pips I am very interested in what you find and I am trying to look into the error you posted above. My credit card rolls over on Monday after which I can get a test account on Namecheap to try all this.
About half of my own sites using it use NGINX. You’ll only need to enter the rewrite rules in your host configuration.
Thank you. I’ll get this in the dev version later today.
It’s definitely in BWPS although it is extremely elusive. Out of the 20 or so installations I maintain across different hosts and server types I have yet to be able to reproduce it.
@appleseedexm which host are you on?
Excellent point. I’ve already committed it to the dev version in trunk.
Thank you!
thomas, can you email it to me at info at bit51 dot com.
20pips, what host are you using? I’m up to about 20 upgrades on 3 different hosts without issue (I’m specifically trying to reproduce the issue you’re experiencing). Do you have any access to error logs that might show where a problem has occurred?
thomas, in your case, with the language, I could see where that would be a problem. I will try to get a list of languages to scan for the appropriate line in future versions. Can you please send me a working copy of your wp-config (minus passwords please) so that I can compare and try to prevent this from happening to anyone else?
20pips, what about you, you’re .htaccess has me slightly more worried as, while the languages can be addressed, I need a little more information to see what happened to you.
That does sound like a scanning issue after something was updated (many items will attach the version string which can get confusing. Try re-adding the generator meta tag and see what happens.
I’m sorry to hear this. Was there any error message during the update that would indicate what went wrong? If not, can you check the logs to see what crashed? I saw this message an hour ago and have tried about 20 updates without such and issue so I need to know what is going wrong on your servers to help.
