I’m pretty much in the same position here but the php.ini file trick did not work.

I’ve deleted and reinstalled several times with still no luck.
strangely if I use win7 it works but not on the snow mac.
any ideas?

I’m getting this problem as well. New site of mine. Blank new media options on MAC. On the PC running win 7 no problems.

Hmmmm very strange. Also, to add more weirdness another wordpress 3.0 site works fine!
