I’m sorry but you’ve lost me here. I need the id to place it to the codes you provided me above so the header will disappear only on this frontpage. I manually alternate between two frontpages,
1.
Customize -> Static front page -> (under Front Page Displays) A static page) -> Front page (select the frontpage I created myself from the dropdown)2.
Customize -> Static front page -> (under Front Page Displays) Your latest posts) -> the front page will automatically switch to the page set up at Customize -> Home Featured Category (withe all the category feeds we selected there.) I don’t have control over this one. The theme does it all by itself. Since I did not create this page / post? myself and I can’t find it anywhere on Page or Post at backend admin, I can’t find its id # to place in your codes to make the header disappear on this frontpage only. Now you said,” you could just go to the page (not homepage) you use for frontpage. and use the customizer there”,
did you mean when I’m on the 2nd frontpage described above and open Customizer, I’ll be able to find its id #? If so, where is it located? I’m not sure that’s the case, which is why you lost me here.Thank you.
The page set in wp-admin->settings->reading->static page is the page I created myself, the one shown in the screenshot above. But if I select “Your latest post” instead of “Static page”, then the front page will change to what we set up at Customize -> Home Featured Category, where we pick from category 1 to category 10 and how many posts to show for each category, as well as their layout and style. That’s the front page I can’t find an id # for.
Hi Richie,
Thank you for the codes. I’m wondering what’s the id for the front page we set up at Customize / Home featured Category? I have two front pages, one is the one shown on the screenshot above, which I created myself; the other one is from the customizer. I looked through all my pages and posts at backend admin but couldn’t find that page (post?) I used the codes you provided and it worked for the front page I created myself because I have its page id. But not the one from Customizer. Thank you.
I don’t know, Richie. Maybe it is. But thank God it’s back to normal.
Hi Richie,
I tried yours but they did not work. I was clueless and at my wit’s end. In the end, out of desperation, I decided to simply uninstall WordPress then re-install it, and, to my great relief, it actually worked.
I apologize that my site is still localhosted. Here are a few screenshots.
This is how it looks like on chrome when on a full screen
This is how it looks like after being minimized
You can see the top menu dropdown icon is gone, and the 3 columns in the main body are all squeezed up.
This is how it looks like in a minimized Firefox screen, and it looks normal.
Hopefully they help.
Thank you.

In reply to: How to make URL in Comment unclickable?Hi there,
Thanks a lot for the link. I added the code to my child theme as instructed and it worked instantaneously. Super!
One question: Since this is an edit to the Appearance / Editor at backend, will it be erased when the parent theme gets update? I’d assume it won’t but can’t be sure.
Thanks again.

In reply to: [MesoColumn] Regarding post’s meta box on mesocolumn…Just to clarify, I don’t need a developer now, but there’s at least one feature I’d like to add to my site when and if my site will grow to a certain membership size. By then I may need a developer. Since you’re the author of the theme I use, it would make sense to consider you first for the gig if you also have the required expertise, or someone you know whom you’d feel comfortable recommending – provided we can reach a mutually agree-upon price, of course. And who knows, I may need one before even launching my site. Thank you.

In reply to: [MesoColumn] Regarding post’s meta box on mesocolumn…Hi Richie, one last thing… besides being a theme author, are you also a developer, I think this is how you call someone who can develop / modify features / functions for a website?

In reply to: [MesoColumn] Regarding post’s meta box on mesocolumn…Hi Richie,
Since you said it’s better to not EDIT anything in hook-functions.php, I decided, however uncertain and worried, to take the risk to replace the parent theme and install the child theme from you.
It took me a long time to back up everything (my styling changes and modifications are a long list plus widgets and customizer settings) before deleting the current parent theme. In the end, to my greatest, and most pleasant, surprise, not only all changes and settings remained and I did not have to re-apply anything, everything works the way it was before the replacement, even the search form was readily shown on the top navigation bar. What a great relief!
Thank you so much for your help. I’ve tried several themes before yours, and reviewed many many more, and your theme is not only better than those other themes, you’re by far the nicest author I’ve encountered so far.
I stumbled across your site purely by random on a Google search result list, and your theme was the last one mentioned on that post. I opened each theme on a new window and there were I think 10 to 15 themes. So I had all these windows on my screen and browsing through them in the order of the list. Mind you I had already reviewed many more themes before reaching this post. Being exhausted plus wasn’t impressed with any of those before yours, I was eager and ready to close those windows one by one, expecting all of them suck, which they do, until reaching the last window, which was mesocolumn. Immediately I stopped without even noticing I stopped after closing 14 windows in a row. I think that probably explained everything even though at that moment I did not know why. And the rest was history.
Thank you so much for everything. Couldn’t have done this without you. And I’m glad I did not close that last window by auto-pilot.

In reply to: [MesoColumn] Regarding post’s meta box on mesocolumn…Hi Richie,
Thanks for the child theme. I did not replace the parent theme for the reason I described in that the other thread. Since adding
get_search_form();
to the hook-functions.php is pretty simple and painless, I thought I’d just do it every time after a theme update. But just to be sure, is that what I should do every time after an update to add the code to the same spot in the hook-functions.php?Thank you
Mike
Hi Richie,
Thanks for the suggestion. I somehow felt very “insecure” to replace the parent theme and re-apply everything afterwards because I have SOOO many styling and modifications done and this is my very first WordPress and very first content management system website, that I was afraid if something should go wrong in the process, I’d be in trouble.
So instead, as time-consuming as it may be, I thought it would be a more simple process. and safer as well, to remove one styling code at a time to see if I can detect the culprit that’s causing the problem.
And that’s exactly what I did the whole day yesterday. And thank goodness, I found it. As it turned out, it was a simple styling code I applied via a styling plugin to a member widget on the sidebar that invisibly changed the Message -> Compose styling at the same time without my knowledge. Once removing that code, everything was restored to its original state.
I tried out 5 other themes before drawing the conclusion that this was probably a theme specific issue, which now proved to be wrong. I sincerely apologize for all the trouble and thank you for your patience.
Mike
Hi Richie,
I did not apply any css styling or add any css codes on this page. I don’t know where that yellow bar comes from either. I don’t think this matters but just in case they do, I apply yellow to three things on my site: the category feed background, the WP category dropdown widget on sidebar and the WP username search form widget on sidebar.
“suggestion: try fresh download latest meso theme (backup all theme first). reset customizer. make sure to backup custom css if had one in customizer->general->custom css.”
Sorry but what do you mean by “back up all theme”?
And do I need to delete the existing mesocolumn first? I think I probably do and if I delete the parent theme, will the child theme get deleted at the same time? Do you have a child theme available too? I created my child theme by using a plugin. But I already deleted that pluging after creating the mesocolumn child. If you have a child theme available, I don’t have to find that pluging and go over their tutorial all over again on how to correctly use that plugin to create a child theme. Thank you.
