OK.. I finally got it working.

Then this morning, for no reason, the errors came back! ARGH! I sure wish someone with wordpress could get a handle on this because it is very obviously a problem. Nobody seems to want to answer or help. After getting the .htaccess file in the correct place.. I believe it supposed to be in your HOME directory, not the blog directory.

THEN I had to deactivate ALL plugins.
THEN I had to re-create the permalink I wanted. (make sure to SAVE!)
Then after re-loading I could re-activate SOME plugins.

So then after a week of it working, this morning it died! I was not happy, but didn’t have time to mess with it.. since I get a good amount of readers, I set the permalink back to default.

This evening, I had to DEACTIVATE all plugins again, re-set and save the custom permalink, and re-activate the plugins.

Here is Why I think this happened. This is ONLY a guess.. but since NOTHING else happened to my blog, no new plugins, no updates, my guess is that the plugins that AUTO UPDATE (the ones that suddenly tell you there is an update for that plugin) have something to do with it. This evening I noticed Google XML and Akismet BOTH had updates avaliable that didn’t before. Maybe when the stuff gets set for the updates, it’s breaking the Permalink stuff? Anyone with actual knowledge of how permalinks and wordpress works care to look into or check that out please?
    Thanks

    PS: I hope that helps.

update: In netscape I get a blank page, in Explorer I get a 404 error. My .htaccess is in my /blog root directory.. so /blog/.htaccess it’s chmod 666. (even tried 777) and wordpress says it still can’t access it. Running apache.
    Open to all suggestions. ??
