In reply to: How to link 2 sites via a blog page?I forgot to add – the new site will be on a subdomain of the old site – I don’t know if this matters.
I have the same problem too! But I had never heard of JetPack and didn’t install it – or any other new plugins recently so I don’t think it has anything to do with it (in my case, anyway). It seemed to be fine one minute and then gone the next – with that message.
Is it some world-wide problem that they’re fixing at WP? Or if we need to fix it ourselves, can someone please tell us how? (for those of us who did not install Jetpack or any other plugins – just another normal day…)
Thank you!
Thanks! Actually, I gave up in the end coz it was just getting so messy – I’ve just decided to use another, simpler theme. That’s the one that you saw – I’m glad it loaded for you. It seems to have fixed a lot of the loading problems I’d been having with the site too.
Anyway, thank you so much again for your help!
Thanks for your reply! Oh dear – why won’t my page load now??!!
Would you mind trying again? https://www.bighoneydog.com
I am already on WP 3.0.1 actually – and I couldn’t understand why I would need to start creating menus ‘coz I didn’t have to before and the pages showed up fine in the navigation bar when I installed the theme the first time.
It is only since I’ve replaced the files in my theme with a newer version from the developer (which was supposed contain fixed bugs) – that suddenly my pages aren’t showing anymore. The black navigation bar is still there running across the top, under the header – but there are no links within it. Instead, all the pages are showing as a list of links stacked on top of each other on the left side, under the black bar. (Sorry – if you could see my page then you could see what I mean – don’t think I’m explaining it very well).
Thanks again
Thank you! I followed what you said and managed to replace the files no problem. The WP dashboard actually showed my “Current Theme” as ‘Dyna Blue 1.5’ instead of ‘Dyna Blue 1.1″ – so it recognised the change!
The only thing is – now the files have been replaced – something seems to have gone wrong with the navigation bar at the top! With the old version, my pages showed up in that black navigation bar across the top but now they’re all crammed in a list down the left side! (and all the subpages are showing too)
(https://bighoneydog.com/)I haven’t touched any of the code at all so I don’t know why this has happened! Is this because of a problem in the new revised version of the files?
Or is this something that I can fix?Aaaarrrrgggh – swapping the files was supposed to make things better, not worse!!
Thank you again –

In reply to: problems loading site – "invalid or unsupported form of compression"Oh, I see. OK – will have a go.
Sorry – I don’t understand – why would I need to redo my widgets (I assume you mean in my sidebar) – if the problem is with the Comments? It seems to be a bug or something in the Commenting function which either prevents people from seeing the comments altogether (when they should be visible immediately – I have not put moderation on) – or worse, prevents people from commenting altogether because their comments disappear after they press “Submit”. Isn’t this to do with the Comment feature not working?
Thank you again.

In reply to: problems loading site – "invalid or unsupported form of compression"Oh dear – I REALLY don’t want to have to change themes! Is there no other way? Do you think the problem with leaving comments is to do with the theme I’m using?

In reply to: problems loading site – "invalid or unsupported form of compression"Thank you for your suggestions – I have done what you said and deactivated all the plugins in my sidebar except the WP email subcription one. So far, the feedback from many readers is that the site is loading faster but a few are still getting error messages.
What’s more disturbing, though, is that since I’ve mentioned these problems on the blog, many readers have emailed me privately to say that they are having trouble leaving Comments – they have tried several times but either can’t submit at all (get an error message) or they submit Comments but I never get them…so where are their comments going?? I just checked through over 2,300 spam comments and none of them are proper ones from friends – so what happened to all the comments from friends??
Plus some readers can’t even see the comments at all – all they can see is the post. But they should be able to see all the comments below the post…Does anyone know why I’m having this problem with the comments and what I can do?! I have looked through the settings but it’s all set on exactly the same as I had it when I was still with WordPress – no moderation or anything.
I feel so frustrated as people are taking the time and going to the trouble of commenting – but I’m not getting them! No wonder I noticed that our comments seem to have dropped significantly in numbers since we moved to self-hosting.
Thank you again

In reply to: WordPress.com Stats plugin – stats from old blogI would really love to know this too as I am also moving over from WordPress.com and would like to “bring” my old stats with me. Is there anyway to import/migrate them?
If not – is there anyway to set a ‘starting number’ for the counter? I was told you could do that with other plugins like Sitemeter.
Thank you

In reply to: Which plugin to embed a LOCALLY HOSTED video file?Just wondering if anyone saw this question?
Please can anyone help? Thanks so much for responding, CoderJosh! So there isn’t any other maintenance type stuff I would have to do myself? Would the WP automatic upgrade feature cover everything?
Thank you again –
