In reply to: Changing Admin PasswordThanks so much, James.
I didn’t want to hit ‘generate’ without knowing if I could change it after. Seems a bit awkward and backwards, but at least I know.
Thank you. Have a great day. ??

In reply to: Virtue ThemeThank you. I don’t see My Sites, I have gone to Appearance > Themes > but I don’t see any dots to the right of anything.
I did find something that said ‘reset all’, which I did, and it deleted one photo I had and reset some things, but not to the point where I find the main page of that theme, with the long header photo and three photos underneath. It’s still simply showing my prior posts. (This is not a new site.) There seems to be no way to find the template for that front page to customize the photos as a static front page …
Or … am I asking too much? Is that theme only available to look like that if you buy it?

In reply to: Do I need to start from scratch for responsive themes?I just found this, which I think may be what you are talking about:

In reply to: Do I need to start from scratch for responsive themes?Oh, okay. That might work and may kill two birds with one stone. I have my current blog on a domain that I don’t use as much (spiritcaat.com) and was going to have my hosting service move it to my primary domain (pawstalk.net).
From what you are saying, I’m thinking that it might be best to create a new WP database on pawstalk.net and do all of the work there until I have the new one built. My only confusion is …
Step 1. I’m going to make a backup of my existing WP database through … my Hostgator Control Panel? And that will save the database to my desktop as a .zip file.
Step 2. I’m going to go into my HG Control Panel and set up a new WP database onto pawstalk.net through Quick install. (That’s really the only way I would know how to do this.)
Step 3. In doing it this way, I don’t know if it will ask me which database to connect it to. (https://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/wordpress/how-to-install-wordpress) If I do this, once it’s installed as a clean install, can I still transfer my copied database into the new install? Or am I going to *have* to do it manually, as you described? Or … is it something I need to just call Hostgator and see if they will copy the whole thing over?
Thanks so much for your help. Just the idea of the new database helps tremendously. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.

In reply to: Static PageHa! LOL. You just might get your wish. I had been really struggling, but I’ve turned the corner. I’ve been working on it all morning and it’s really coming together now. I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions, but I just may become a convert. ??
Thanks so much.

In reply to: Static PageYes, it works, Marcus. Thank you!
I had tried that once before and it didn’t, but I just realized it was because I had a bit of text on the blog page, so that is what showed. I took that text off and redid as you said and it works.
Thanks so much for your help. I *really* appreciate it. ??

In reply to: Static PageThat did it for me. Thank you sooooo much, Marcus. Now, my second question is: I am reworking an existing blog. I want to make it into a fully functional site which simply includes my blog as a page link. I created t the home page (what I would consider my ‘index’ page on a regular site). I created the ‘blog’ page in the interest of following directions to do the static page, but that’s not where all of my posts are.
They were on the original ‘posts’ page set up as the default by WP, the same as since I started the blog some 6 years ago. But that’s not a page that I actually created, and when I set the home page as the static front page, it doesn’t give me an option to set the blog to the ‘posts’ page where my posts reside. Can you tell me how to now link to that posts page, since it was there already? Is that possible?
Thanks so much again for the info. I was so frustrated knowing I was on the right page, over and over again, but not seeing the right thing.
Best,

In reply to: Help. Funky Sidebar Problem.Found it and fixed it. Thanks.
God, I don’t know. I’m wondering if there are just certain pages (permalinks and categories) that are corrupted or something. The problem is that it’s not doing it on my only two updated browsers — Safari and Firefox — so I can’t recreate the problem.
My biggest problem is that I’ve got a migraine right now and simply can’t deal with this. Is there someplace I can go to hire somebody to look at this?

In reply to: Help. Funky Sidebar Problem.Okay. Thank you. I’ll do that.
I just noticed something very odd as well. My site is https://www.spiritcaat.com/spiritcaatblog .
When I chose one specific ‘recent post’ called “yummy yellow” the text in the sidebar changes to italic. It doesn’t do it on any other recent post I click on, only that one.

In reply to: Blogroll OrderOkay. Thanks. I see where to do that. My next question is this:
In every theme I test I go to the widgets area and only see “default sidebar.” I see how to add all the individual things, but if I want to go back to that default once I’ve saved it to see what it looks like, how do I do that?
Also, adding the widget here — does this just change it for only the current theme, or does it change it globally for every theme I currently have at my disposal?
Thanks,
CaatEDIT: Oh! Never mind! Got it! Thank you! ??

In reply to: Blogroll OrderOkay. Thank you for the tips. I put the plugin in, and it shows up and everything, but doesn’t seem to be working. When I change the code, to what they say to change it to, the sidebar disappears with an error message.
Also, I found the wp_list_bookmarks tag but I’m not quite sure what to do with it with the ‘orderby’ tag if I were to go that direction.
I’ll have my husband look at it and see if it makes more sense to him.
Thanks,

In reply to: Blog ElementsOkay. Thanks. So, I guess it’s just a matter of finding a theme I like that has both.
Thanks,
