I did exactly what you told me. However I am still getting some nagging errors like the permalink not working.

These are some of my observations –
?? wordpress database in collation – works only on the home page. WordPress database in utf8_unicode_ci – works fine but no permalink. I might be doing something wrong while exporting/importing the original database, which I want to integrate into my local copy of WordPress. Some more steps which I took.

a€o Export from original database in SQL format
a€o Import into local machine via phpMyAdmin
a€o change the URL under wp_options ?? site
a€o change the URL under wp_options ?? home
a€o Copy all the original files into the WP copy on the local machine
a€o activate the plugins via the dashboard. They are in conjunction with the original copy.

This is all that I do and still the home page & the ‘previous/next page’ links seem to be working fine. I don’t get the rest of the links (archive, comments, categories) to work even though the database has the content (it gives me the same error that I posted in my earlier post).

I also updated my local machine with all the files from the original blog and now it seems like I am browsing the blog through broadband ??

However when I click on the permalink (the topic title of the post) I get this error.

I checked with the XAMPP installation page and it had some intructions on resolving permalink issues. BUt it still doesn’t seem to work. Can you suggest something on this?

I was able to change the tag to the_time() and it’s working perfectly fine now, though I would like to test it overtime and come to a more definite conclusion.

Ok..I found a decent plugin that more or less satisfies my needs. It’s called “Show On frontpage” plugin (https://www.richardgoodwin.com/wp/2005/01/08/new-plugin-showonfrontpage/). I have installed it on my blog. There are some issues though which I would like to point, in case you guys can help me out.

The idea was to create an images blog, with nothing but an image and a few descriptive lines of the same. This category would not be visible on the home page (this is where this plugin comes handy). If you check the link https://www.bhooshan.net > Photos (under caetgory) you’ll realise that it doesn’t show the images first up (one needs to click on the permalink to view them) but it shows the text instantly. What can be the problem here?

Can the same thing be in reverse order? For instance, I don’t want to show the contents of a particular Page/Category on the home page, but only on the page inside? Can this be done?

Davejenbarnes, history has proved that I am a better designer than a developer. I like WP because of its simplicity and ease of use, not to mention the availability of themes :)) Anyways, thanks for the comments, I will defintely try and improve upon my skills by visiting Codex regularly :))
