In reply to: [Sundance] Changing the Theme Options with Child ThemeHi Kathryn,
Thanks for your suggestion. Hadn’t thought about that and yes, that seems to be more helpful. I will give it a try and see if I still have further questions on this topic.
Thanks!

In reply to: Posts on multiple pages with page templatesHi alchymyth,
Thanks for your response! I’ve been trying this and was able to at least get rid of the duplicate page title, but still not getting posts. I took out the ‘category_name’ section and replaced it with this:
$query = new WP_Query( 'cat=3,6,7,4' );
I tried doing
$args = array( // Change these category SLUGS to suit your use. 'category_in' => ' 3, 6, 7, 4 ', 'paged' => $paged );
and that didn’t do anything.
Does it have to do with the part of the code that says ‘paged’?… hmmm still stuck.

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateThanks Kathryn.
Here are the final answers to my searchbar and footer questions:
https://pastebin.com/TFaBFhY5 which shows the placement of the code in the header.php and the css for it. The code needed to go within the navigation tags.The footer code I resolved as well. I’m sure I will continue to clean is up:
https://pastebin.com/buas4Wv9Thanks again. I figured this out quickly on Saturday when I finally had a proper chance to work on it.

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn,
While, I do appreciate all the help you’ve given, I was really looking for guidance as I’ve worked on this on the side, not my full time, and I took web design courses as well as have books for reference, but thought the forums seemed like a helpful place to have some support when feeling stuck. My first experience with posting was fantastic and helpful with regards to media queries, and I figured out what I was looking for very quickly. The reason I posted again for this thread in the Sundance forums again was due to the searchbar mostly, not the footer.
The funny thing is, when I checked the syntax errors for the demo site for sundance, (while through a different wordpress platform, i know) I found a lot of the same syntax errors that were found on my test site. See here:
https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fsundancedemo.wordpress.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&No200=1&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3+http%3A%2F%2Fvalidator.w3.org%2FservicesSo, I’ll be sure to go back in and clean everything up. As this site is a test I had not yet gone to do the full validation. I did however, look at the source code in Firefox and did not see these. So thanks!
No need to respond further. I’ll just mark this thread as resolved so it doesn’t get even further out of hand as it already has.

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateThanks! I’ve updated the header.php. But, the searchbar is still in the same spot, so I’m guessing something further is needed in the css … any suggestions?
Thanks for the clarification on the footer divs…. But do I make each div the same class (footerlist) or is it better to make them all separate, such as footerlist-1, footerlist-2, or something like that? Because what I have in my css right now is for an id tag of footer-col which is now in my footer.php right before the footerlists.
This is the css I have in there now for it, which I actually grabbed/modified from something else:
`#footer-col {
-moz-column-count:3; /* Firefox */
-webkit-column-count:3; /* Safari and Chrome */
column-count:3;
margin-left: 4em;
margin-top: .2em;
margin-bottom: .2em;
border-top: 1px dotted #b3b3b3;
clear: both;
margin: 1.5714285714em 0 0 0;
}
#footer-col li{
list-style-type: none;
}’So I’m wondering if I have all the lists under class – footerlist, where the style should come in. Sorry I’m really confused now on this. Perhaps this should now start a new thread as well.
Thanks again!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn,
I updated the footer.php with this code: https://pastebin.com/y8JhjqQm is that right, or is there code in the beginning that should be deleted? I have not uploaded it yet because I wanted to check this before I add to my css.
Thanks!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn,
Thanks regarding the footer, I will look into that. And yes, if I continue having questions regarding the slider I will post in a separate thread.
Regarding the searchbar. Here’s the link to the code: https://pastebin.com/w1jYBHZG
Thanks again!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn,
I’ve update the code you suggested for the 1-Searchbar but I’m still having trouble styling it so it goes within the menu navigation bar. Any chance you have further suggestions?
Still stuck on my footer.
Thanks again for any help!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page Template2. Footer – maybe this is happening when I look at the site using Chrome. I just went into my dashboard and add a sub page under Neighborhoods and it did something weird there. After I went back to the main page, the layout of the sidebar was out of wack too. Are there certain settings I need to call out for Chrome to recognize properly? Thanks again!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page Template1. Sidebar – what I have already is the code from the searchform.php placed inside the header.php after line 73 and I added the css you suggested above. Instead of “newsearch” I have it as “searchform” same as what’s in the searchform.php. I tried your way as well and it seemed to not make a difference with either code. It still resides just below the main menu navigation bar. Do I need to put the css somewhere along with one of the navigation styles?
2. Footer – here’s a link to a screenshot:
https://testpalanca.bethparrattdesign.com/footer/3. Page – Slider- If I add the slider would there be a way for me to add it only onto that page? I would like to keep the main page the way it is.
– Page – Photo Grid- I will look into this then through the page editor. It just seemed like something that would be more part of the design if it was in the child theme vs being set up in the wordpress dashboard. But I will definitely check it out!!Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page Template1. searchbar – it’s now sitting below the main nav menu line, how can I get it within that menu using css? Thanks again!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn,
you’re right this is a bit confusing, so thanks so much with sticking with it! ??2. Footer:
Ok, regarding the columns… I guess what i need to do is make the columns align “center” instead of to the left for each column. There just seems to be some quirks to it. LIke for example, these items as you see them, do not always stay in the columns, so sometimes I’ll open a browser and “facebook” ends up in the middle column and that column gets pushed up (not aligned at the top across the 3 columns).3. Page:
Thank you. Are you saying the only/best way to do this is in wordpress settings? Or is there a way to create this somehow in my child theme files?
And if I did want to do the slider, what suggestions would you have for that?Thanks again!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateHi Kathryn, thanks
re- 1 searchbar- I was able to add it by playing with the header.php, but I’ll check what I did against your suggestions to improve it. Because what I did, I was able to get it to appear but it’s below the main nav menu and I was stuck on how to style it in my CSS to move it. I will relook and try your suggestions. Thank you!Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page TemplateI have uploaded the photo onto find neighborhoods link of the site. https://www.bethparrattdesign.com/past-emails/neighborhoods/
Originally I was going to try to do a separate slider similar to shown in the top of the image but instead, have felt that it would be easier to turn the other photo buttons into the neighborhoods.So the question is, is this possible? It seemed like something where I would do a page template but I’m not sure and have never started a blank new page template before.
Thanks!

In reply to: [Sundance] Search bar , Footer Columns, New Page Template3. Is there a way I can upload a photo on here? It’s hard to explain without, but the photos will be like categories (not posts) to bring you to other pages (i.e. – park slope, Williamsburg, Bayridge,etc).
4. Thank you, I believe she has constant contact for her newsletters so I will do some research then to see how to add this to the WordPress blog. Thanks!
