First I’d like to apologize for any intrusion you felt. You should know that Go Daddy and Media Temple addressed the immediate issue by halting the installs. You can read more about it here:

That said, if you can share what exactly happened that caused you to lose “hours” of work, please do so we can correct the error and prevent it from happening again to someone else. With almost 200,000 installs we’ve never seen anything like that occur before but we take an issue like this very seriously.

Your colourful and painful suggestion aside for the moment, I hear you.

To be clear, I speak for SIDEKICK not GD or MT however I can tell you that they have received your feedback and I will do what I can to make sure that it’s given the proper attention.

Now, do you think we can find a suitable punishment that doesn’t involve endangering my future children or are you dead set on the ball kick?

It appears that Go Daddy and Media Temple have begun installing SIDEKICK on all previously installed Managed WordPress instances. The intent is to be helpful but I hear you and we will address it with them.

Hi Asles,

Go Daddy recently bought Media Temple, so they are now the same company, two different divisions.

With regards to your lost pages, can you give me any more detail on what was going on? SIDEKICK only runs when you click the Orange Help Me button and then select a Walkthrough. Otherwise, it’s dormant. It also doesn’t access anything related to your database once installed. When you run a Walkthrough, it pulls from our platform.

Hi Randy,

I’m not sure how this is a “Scam” of any kind. SIDEKICK will never ask you to pay anything additional for your site or show you ads. It is a help tool. That’s it.

SIDEKICK Premium has been installed free of charge on your Go Daddy install as part of your Managed support package and can be easily disabled and deleted.

We certainly will bring up the fact that some of their support staff aren’t aware of SIDEKICK yet however being as we just launched with them, it may take some time for everyone to get up to speed in such a large organization. We appreciate your patience with that.

We have received your feedback here and via Tweet and we will address it with Media Temple and Go Daddy to see if there is cause to make a change.

If you are having an issue with the plugin itself, please let us know ASAP either by replying to this thread or contacting support@sidekick.pro.

As an FYI to those reading this feedback: SIDEKICK is pre-installed with Media Temple Managed WordPress sites and upgraded to our premium package free of charge. You will never see an ad or be asked to pay anything for it. Uninstalling it is as simple as deactivating the plugin and deleting it.

I’m not sure how SIDEKICK being part of your install would cause 8 hours of work to disappear however if you encountered an error, please let us know at support@sidekick.pro and I will take care of it immediatly.

With regards to pre-installation. SIDEKICK Premium comes as a free add-on with some Go Daddy, Media Temple, Blue Host and Host Gator WordPress installs. It was not installed as part of another plugin and is not spam. There are no ads installed and you will never be prompted to pay for anything.

As the plugin would have been installed on install of your WordPress site, again, I’m not sure how it caused 8 hours of work to disappear but we take this very seriously and would appreciate a chance to help.

Uninstalling is as simple as removing a plugin. As you said, it’s a very nice addition for those that need it and a simple delete or ignore for those that don’t.

Yes, Composer is the tool that allows you to create your own Walkthroughs. You can signup for our beta at sidekick.pro/plans.

Absolutely! When Composer is released, you will be able to create Walkthroughs in any language you like!

However, we have no plans to translate our current content en masse.
