There is no warning about API in Site Health, unfortunately. I have sent a ticket request to my host concerning my database being a potential issue, but if you have the same configuration, I guess that’s not going to be helpful after all. I will ask them more specifically about WordPress-specific improvements as well as the modSecurity.

Thank you for your help! I suspect this is a problem with my hosting somehow, though that still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. I will mark this thread as resolved, because I don’t think there’s much more troubleshooting I can do on my end.

(Bonus problem: I gave up on the first plugin and switched to Woocommerce, but that has its own problem with the startup wizard not being able to progress due to the countries selection dropdown not working and the skip button not working either. No idea if it’s connected to the Gutenberg problems, but this would be a second example of the Admin backend having display/functionality issues.)

Thank you for responding! I’m also stumped on what could be causing this from the server side, since the categories ARE there, including when switching to the Classic Editor plugin. It has to be Gutenberg/blocks that are having the issue, but I cannot understand what could have changed between 5.9 (which did work with the blocks) and all of the 6.0+ versions. In the pre-6.0 versions I tested, the post editor worked fine even without the Classic Editor on.

My PHP version is 7.4.33. Server version: 10.0.38-MariaDB-cll-lve. I am not the most tech-savvy person when it comes to the details there.

New troubleshooting failures: I just checked to see if it was my Mac causing a display problem somehow, but it still isn’t showing on a Windows PC browser. I also just tried to do the clean install manually with WordPress 6.2 (I have been using cPanel’s WordPress Manager), but the same problem is happening.
