In reply to: Auto Updates?Hi Marj,
Thank you for clarifying.
I didn’t take what you said as I condescending at all. I understood that the 1st line was a comment and the 2nd the function, I wasn’t clear in my post. I also DO backup before most upgrades, and that’s yet another reason why I can’t afford automatic updates.
As Jan Dembowski pointed out, with any change there is ALWAYS a chance for an “If something were to break” situation that requires filing the problem with support AND waiting for them to address it. Since I backup each DB prior to ANY updates and I also cannot stop everything I am currently doing the second an update rolls out, I need time to prepare for that.
So, because there is the potential for those “if something breaks” situations, I do not always update immediately. When I have TIME, I check the forums to see if there are any major issues that need to be worked out – prior to doing so – BECAUSE I do have several sites to maintain and because I’m managing my time and working and can’t stop everything to start addressing problems and fixes and fixes that haven’t been addressed yet. (This applies to all updates for all products.)
Last, I think there’s potentially a point of view that isn’t or hasn’t been introduced into the thought process of the developers yet. This is JUST an example – I know of a site, that had WordPress developers build their blog in such a way, that any version updates will break their customizations. “I” KNOW this needs to be fixed on the site and I have also suggested it to the owner (someone that I do some work for) HOWEVER, they do not have the MONEY to throw at the issue yet. Many site owners do not design or developer their own sites – they PAY someone to – so IF they do not have the money to update and upgrade, their sites may not be up to version speed.
After having read the other thread about the security issues with the disparities in WP version on the internet – as a whole – and the potential for breaches to cross pollinate more internet problems – I understand the WP developers wanting to be proactive and alleviate internet issues – but what I don’t understand is this…
When did they become responsible for the security of the internet or the security of individual websites? They are a platform – but even if 20% of all sites are running WP, WP is not responsible for the security of the internet. Ultimately, individual website owners are responsible for their own sites. Security applications should be taking care of individuals browsing, sites and computers.
In a perfect world, one source for everything web and security would be great, but to my knowledge, that isn’t happening any time soon.

In reply to: Auto Updates?Thank you Marj,
MUCH appreciated.
One question, since this is a WP file, and not a theme file I can modify as a child, is it safe to assume that I’d have to add this line “/** Disable All Automatic Updates */” each time there IS an update?
?

In reply to: Auto Updates?Sigh …so much to read, I’m wrapping up a really very busy day –
I just got an email notifying me of this new ‘automatic update’…
I’m very concerned over anything being done automatically on my site – and the several other sites that I am responsible for. If something were to break because of something being upgraded IN THE BACKGROUND, and I’m not able to get to them ALL AT ONCE – that’s VERY bad – bad for them, bad for their visitors and bad for me … and my JOBS and livelihood.
I don’t want anything automatically updating – I understand the rationale (I read that thread) but I need to be on hand and available for EACH SITE in case something goes wrong and I need to implement these changes with the potential for things to go wrong, in a sequential manner BECAUSE I have so many sites to maintain.
I’m also really put off by the verbiage in the email telling me “You also have some plugins or themes with updates available. Update them now:“
Please don’t tell me what to do. I don’t choose to ‘update them now’. I know what is an older version and the reasons why they are, and unless someone here is going to do my work for me, I don’t want anything updating automatically. What is going on here?
I’m sorry but I’m too tired to read 20 pages of comments to find out how to PREVENT anything from automatically updating on my site and all of the other sites I am responsible for –
PLEASE tell me how to DISABLE automatic updates.
Thank you.

Hi Mark,
Yes thank you. The last thing you told me to try seems to have worked. I haven’t it happen once since that setting was changed.

In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsHi,
I’ve been on this all night again. According to the W3, that line of FB code doesn’t belong on line #2 – I have no idea if that is causing an issue though it is perplexing why it isn’t included with the rest of the coding for the plugin.
No matter what I have tried i haven’t been able to get the pins to pin rich now. Even more perplexing is I came across a WordPress site that had JUST the OG’s from jetpack – and their pins were all rich.
I’m nearly sick with trying to get this to work. Not sure if you can help but certainly would appreciate it if you can. ALl of this and the documentation etc is very intense and not for the average non-techy person – and I’m techy but not this techy. If I were, I’d have spent the last 2 days writing my own plugin to just add the metas and leave out all of the rest that I don’t need. ??
I just removed the plugin for now until when and if I can get a better handle on it.

In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsHi JS,
Thank you, I read that from your link, so I moved on.
Here is what I am experiencing. Some pins are rich, some are not. Sometimes a pin, pins rich from the very same post that DOES NOT pin a rich pin.
Example posts:
https://bcr8tive.com/metin-demiralay-photography/
This post pins rich and then NOT rich.THIS Post pins consistently rich.:
https://bcr8tive.com/julien-macdonald-spring-2014/Example – NO rich pins:
https://bcr8tive.com/modern-mediterranean-design/You can also tell how they are pinning by viewing the source from Pinterest
https://www.pinterest.com/source/bcr8tive.com/This shows what is being pinned from the site live – and if they’re pinning rich (if at all – most are not) ??
Last, the site name over ride doesn’t seem to be working..,
I changed it to .com and it doesn’t display .com – it still displays as ‘from bcr8tive’ when it is a rich pin….Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsHi JS,
I’ve done it. It’s installed.
SOME pins are pinning rich. (on a private board to test)However there are still issues.
The W3C reports that the
<html lang=”en-US” xmlns:og=”https://ogp.me/ns” xmlns:fb=”https://ogp.me/ns/fb”>
should be on line #2
Is this line from this plugin?
Also, I have tall thin fashion images – so far, when I pin those, the pin isn’t rich. It SEEMS as though when I pin an average sized image – the pin does pin rich (though I can’t be sure yet, still testing)

In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsJS,
I’ve removed the plugin but I’m very confused now.
I read through the documentation.
I don’t understand if I am supposed to REinstall the nextgen-open-graph.6.11.1 plugin and THEN the nextgen-facebook update or JUST the nextgen-facebook.
Please advise. ??

In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsHi Js,
Sorry for not starting the new thread. Trying not to be redundant and do my homework before bothering anyone. Since it was already a thread, I thought not to :/
I have been in the back end, looking through all of the ‘og’ code for about uhhh 24 hours or more now, ugh – I also wrote to Pinterest BECAUSE some pins are pinning as rich pins and others are not.
I’ve been reading the source code of many posts, using the rich pin validator and seeing that some posts validate, then others do not (they return a 503 when there’s not a thing wrong with my server) and I’m pulling my hair out.
I also just ran some posts through the W3C validator and found that one line of og code (for facebook) is way up on line 2, and not sure why it is there – but apparently there are also issues from WordPress.
*huge sigh*Site = bcr8tive.com
Thanks much for the update, I’ll add it now and see how that goes.

In reply to: [NextGEN Facebook] Pinterest Rich PinsHi JS Morisset,
I’m sorry if I was supposed to start a new thread for this, but since this one was about rich pins, I thought perhaps this goes here.
I installed this plugin this morning, for the purpose of rich pins. It is working in so far as Pinterest approved them, however I am still rooting around trying to figure out why… (all day) ??
#1 My site_title is not “”.com on pins – and more importantly I cannot seem to find where or how I include the favicon and site name to display on the pins. They are ‘article pins”.
I see that you wrote to zappyone, to add this css function (somewhere(?)) as he has a site title (so do I) that I do not want to say what I want the site name to say on the pins, ie “.com”
Please help. At this point in time this is ALL I need this plugin to do. My pins are not displaying a favicon and site name.com

Hi all –
Since you all were going to be away, I waited to hit update.
This all is quite scary. I have too many sites to maintain to automatically upgrade without pausing for a minute to see what happens with an update.
Is it safe to assume that you will be issuing an updated version of this last update with fixes for these problems? :S
Hi Richard,
Thank you. Yes, he did respond, but since no one had, I was searching for help so I tried posting here – a week later.
Now I’ve gotten a reply in both places which is great ツ
Thank you for the link – I’ll save that. Initially I was told that I shouldn’t be experiencing any speed issues unless it was the mobile portion … I see and appreciate that you understand what I was trying to convey per Google’s reports and recognize now that this as an issue for a future release.
Jetpack is awesome & I’d love to be able to contribute or help – but I’m doing way too much for one person already –
I don’t know if it can be done, but did wonder if the bulk of the loading could be done in the footer as opposed to the header / above the fold – or if that would even help.
You all are much better at this than I would be, since it’s your baby and you’ve rocked it very well!
fjavier,
Did you mean to attach something? Here is what sheet?
I wish the developers would address this instead of it being in limbo for MONTHS.
