In reply to: HELP – In one swish, all pages just disappeared!Ok, well I checked wp_posts (I suppose this is the table that also hosts pages, not just articles?) and it doesn’t sound too good:

#145 – Table ‘./site_databasename/datbase_posts’ is marked as crashed and should be repairedI am not an database whiz at all, so am not 100% what happened. How do you ‘repair’ parts of the database. I do have a service in Cpanel, that backups and I guess restores sites….

In reply to: HELP – In one swish, all pages just disappeared!Hi esmi
Many thanks for your answer. How do I find out? I have just logged into Cpanel and went into the MySQL panel and it let me do so. My other site (the main one) does not seem to be affected. Well, how would I know if someone is trying to hack it?
Thanks again!
Hello all
Apologies, I gave the instructions another look and fixed the issue. A simple permalinks re-safe sorted it out.I still wonder though, why my robots.txt does not say nothing more than sitemap: https://cdn.attracta.com/sitemap/1912931.xml.gz. From what I’m aware I don’t even use the Attracta service. Well, I am not robots.txt savvy at all, but am I right to assume that the XML & Google News Sitemap plugin also does not add anything to the robots.txt?
Thanks anyhow!
Hi all, not to worry, I fixed the issue.
It still doesn’t make much sense. I basically deleted some of the same files and re-uploaded them to the server and the problem was fixed.
Thanks again.
Hello again
Is it possible that in order to have links truncated with “Pretty Link” to appear mapped to the same domain name of a new MU network site (not the main MU site)?
Is it possible that an upgrade to Pretty Link Pro is required? I’m just trying to figure out, if it is a setup issue or in fact linked to a product upgrade?
Thanks again
Hi all
I was wondering, if anyone could give me advice on the Pretty Link Lite setup issue above? I would say that on Multisite it defeats the purpose, if Pretty Link URLs are not mapped to the newsite URL structure. But as mentioned before, there may of course be a workaround for this.
Many thanks!
Done and dusted – mapped the www. version in the newsite doamin mapping panel too and it works! Man, I owe you a few pints.
By the way, is there any advantage or disadvantage between having new MU sites set up as sub-domains or sub-directories or is it just preference? For some reason my MU install came as sub-domains disabled (define(‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false);)
I also find it strange that newsite.com is at the same search engine rank and google PR as mainsite.com (I guess because of ‘permanent redirect’ enabled). Not that it’s a bad thing, but as a new site it doesn’t seem realistic.
Anyway, no more questions. You’ve helped me heaps. Thanks again mate (I can finally start working on that newsite)!
I believe you ??
I just realized something, how stupid I didn’t see or try this before. I was always typing newsite.com into the mobile browser without the www. Doing it with the www prefix, it actually works…
I’m sure, I’m only one or two steps away to work around that, so that mobile understand that https://www.newsite.com and newssite.com are the same.
I’d be super helpful, if you could lead me on the right track in this last instance. I guess I was going in loops before, like mad…
Thanks so much for all your help so far. Really appreciate it!
Thanks again for your answer.
I have checked and I am not running any plugins that deal with caching, redirection, mapping (or even mobile) other than the domain mapping plugin.
Leaves me to think that maybe the plugin just doesn’t handle the mobile side of things well or it has something to do with the way newssite.com is set up in Cpanel hence it links to public_html/mainsite.com, but then again it has to. Otherwise newsite.com won’t be able to retrieve the child theme within the MU network install).
Why would everything work fine on desktop and mobile has it its own way? Is there not a way to set up some permanent redirect rules in .htaccess?
Just some brainstorming before resolving back to single WP installs.
Thanks!! ??
Hi there
Actually I am not using any plugins for caching, at least from what I know.
On another note, when I typed in https://www.mainsite.com/newsite/ into the mobile browser, it redirects correctly and stays on the page newsite.com – once you return to newsite.com from another website, it goes straight back to mainsite.com (all this on mobile). I added this here, just in case…
But yeah, I have no experience when it comes to caching plugins and how they may help solve the issue.
Thanks!
Hi Ipstenu
Hey, that’s ok of course. Better traveling for work than not traveling at all. I am happy that I’m getting help here.
Well yeah, I don’t know. The hosting guys said they can’t help either and that it is most likely a problem on the WP side of things. I also thought it may be some major caching issue, but I tried on a different mobile and it’s the same story. Leaves me to think it may be something to do with the domain mapping plugin.
Do you know of a good plugin that can handle mobile redirect requests? I find it a little botched up having to use a tool for every instance, but if that’s the only solution I am happy to give it a go.
Thanks again!
Hi Ipstenu
Thanks for getting back to me. A heads up, I have figured out the issue with the image paths, so that’s all good now (it was more of a misunderstanding on my behalf).
However, the mobile redirection issue is still on. I have unchecked the option above, waited, cleared the cache and cookies – to no avail. newsite.com keeps redirecting back to the main MU site mainsite.com (on mobile only). It’s a real pain and I am thinking about scrapping the whole MU idea.
Of course, in Cpanel newsite.com, which is just a child theme of the mainsite MU network, ist set up as an ad-on domain that links to the file branch of mainsite. But then the domain mapping plugin sorts that out and redirects mainsite.com/newsite/ correctly to newsite.com – just on mobile it does not seems to have any effect whatsoever.
I’ve run out of ideas… :-/
Hi Ron
I’ve checked with the hosting guys and they couldn’t figure out the issue either. They say it’s not a DNS prop issue as the site is set up to link to mainsite.com/newsite/ and thus redirects to mainsite.com – of course your plugin fixes that by mapping newsite.com and make it appear as if it’s a stand alone site.
But the mobile problem still persist. I have set up the domain a few days ago, cleared the cache and cookies on the mobile as well as checked on another mobile just to make sure – the result is the same. new site redirects to the main MU site (mainsite.com) on mobile only, desktop is fine.
I’ve been advised to move newsite.com to the top level branch, but that would mean a new WP install and thus defeats the purpose as this is supposed to be a MU network.
I’ve run out of ideas…
Hi Ron
I’ve been playing around and managed to solve the issue with the images. Thanks again. I didn’t quite get your answer in the first place.
However, I still encounter the issue on mobile devices. When accessing the new site, it redirects to the main site. I have tried checking and uncheckig the options in the Domain Mapping Plugin, but that did not seem to make a difference.
If this has anything to do with the setup in Cpanel – the new site is set up as an add on domain – I couldn’t park it, as it would have pointed to the top level domain as in the structure below:
– Top Level Domain
– Domain MU Network Main Site Ad On with own WP theme)
– New Site (Child of another WP theme) – Ad On domain in Cpanel, so it does not point to Top Level Domain. The new site redirects to Main Domain upon accessing it on a mobile device. It doesn’t do so on a desktop platform.
I would be super happy, if you could advise me. Many thanks!!
Hi Ron
Many thanks for your response. So I don’t misunderstand anything, I don’t usually use the WP tools such as visual editor and other gimmicks to upload images. I do everything in the HTML editor and include images directly in the code.
So, for example my new MU site would have a path such as newsite.com/images/example.jpg. However, this does not work, as the new site already refers back to the host site. On top of a 404 for the path above the actual image path it’s looking for is mainsite.com/newsite/images/example.jpg. Therefore, the images are not masked to the new site structure as if it was an independent site.
In addition, the new site redirects straight back to the Main Site (the MU host site) when accessed on a mobile device.
Of course I may be misunderstanding something, but I still don’t have a solution here ??
Thanks again!
