I suspect that twenty-seventeen, like many themes I have tried in the past with custom home screens, has a default setup. If you don’t set the home page to display some other information, or even if you don’t have any pages at all, the theme, somehow, ‘fills in the gaps,’ perhaps so that there is at least some content to display. Or it could be sort of a ‘look how it could be done’ situation. I am about to delve into this theme for a client, and I am not sure if I even need to keep the default pages, rename them, or just populate each page with new information.
