i think first you have to check either you are istalling a theme or a plugin because some time when you install a zip file of theme in a newplugin this error cause and its a blunder mistake but can happened specialy for new users.

It happens due to duplicate copy of a folder inside a folder. It happens when you unzip a folder. like /wordpress/wordpress/…

make sure that you keep on level only.
