Is it supposed to only run on 5.6 or higher now? My control panel let me go up from 5.3 to 5.5 so I did that.
So, also, as it turns out when my host moved my site some time ago, I never got the new ftp information and my site files are also still sitting on the old server so some of the changes I tried to make really didn’t do anything with my actual site.
But I got that sorted out last night and manually updated. That didn’t help so I did the thing with the plugins folder and now nothing loads from my site.
I was told there was someone else at my host who is an expert on WP so today I will get in touch with that person and hopefully get this solved. If I ever find out what the problem was, I’ll post it here in case it can help someone else in the future.
No, I’m not using a caching plugin and no cdn. I’m going to call them before they close for the day.
I uploaded a plain .html file from another, old site and into the main directory of the site I’m working on. When I tried navigating to that file I got a 404.
My host did some weird things some time ago with my account, and I’m wondering if my ftp account doesn’t go to the correct place anymore. Although that might mean my site is somehow duplicated on one of their servers. At any rate, what it seems like is no changes I make manually with ftp show up on my site.
I need to get in touch with them.
Like where it says ‘dynamik-gen’ – change that to something like ‘dynamik-gen.test’?
Because if that it how it is supposed to be done, then there is some other problem with my hosting or something because I did that and nothing on my site changed.
to do that with the theme, do I just need to again rename the folder? And that should deactivate it?
I reinstalled manually, but that hasn’t helped. When I try logging in, the submit button just keeps saying ‘sending’ but nothing ever happens. I’ve tried with different browsers too and on my phone.
bdbrown – thanks, I will try that. So I’m guessing you think it’s better to go ahead and upgrade manually rather than go back to the old version manually?
I’m going to get my daughter off to her friends and then calm myself a bit before trying so I don’t mess up something else in the process.
antonioverardi83 – I think it’s php5. Sorry my daughter is home now and I’m trying to figure this out while taking care of her too.

In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8Should I start a new topic? I found this discussion through a search. I was hoping to find out how other people fixed the same problem but it doesn’t look like it will be so easy.

In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8yeah, it seems any page that you don’t have to log into to access are ok.

In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8I do have securi alert though and apparently it’s still working because I just got another email from it. But I’m not sure, can I just go to the server through ftp and delete that plugin entirely? Kind of scared to do anything now.
I backed up stuff yesterday and I think my hosts keeps some other backups that can be reverted to, I’ll have to see if they can do that.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8No I’m not, sorry I forgot to include that. Not running any cache plugins either.

In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8Deleted all cookies related to my site, still can’t get to the dashboard. I hate this I have no idea what to do now. I guess next step is to figure out how to get back to the old version.

In reply to: Can’t access dashboard after update to 4.8Same problem here, just updated to 4.8 and now I can’t access my dashboard. I’ll try clearing the cookies thing. But I don’t even remember how to do that, so now I have to look that up.
Great! And thanks for such a quick response!
One other question though – on step 5: ‘Any other wishes for your main icons?’ I have mine set for 5 in a row, but it seems to ignore that setting no matter what number I put in and it always just lists them straight down, 1 per row.
