I got a developer on fiverr to fix it – unfortunately we reverted back to old version and due to upgrade again soon

Contacted hosting (hostgator) and they referred me to this link

could it be to do with the WordPress Upgrade to 3.5

I have now checked 3 sites in development and they all have this issue??
