In reply to: The Google thing – not discussed here?! [CLOSED]TechGnome,
I’m leaving WordPress because this shows that the character of the WordPress leadership is suspect. I can’t trust the WordPress team anymore.
I am migrating out of WP for good.

In reply to: The Google thing – not discussed here?! [CLOSED]Bad time to take a vacation.
As a once-happy WordPress user, I’m actively and seriously looking for alternatives. Unless something big happens soon, I’m gone.
It’s been fun.

In reply to: nofollow should be an optionFor example, if you moderate all comments, and personally delete all the spam before it hits the web, there is no reason to turn on nofollow.
That said, nofollow should be the default setting on install.

In reply to: Lock posts pluginOh.
Are you supposed to activate the plugin, test it a little, and then deactivate it? That seems to have closed comments older than 90 days. That’s what I configured it for. Comments now work right.

In reply to: Lock posts pluginDo you mean this?

When I install that plugin, it breaks comments. (Trying to comment generates an error.)
Is there a working plugin with current versions of WordPress?

In reply to: Prevent spam in wpIt’s probably some script kiddie thing. Auto-search Google for web pages with both high page rank and a comments function. Auto-detect what spam script to hurl at comments function. Fire at will.
You know, the best way to figure out how to stop spam would be to learn how to send it. Not that you would actually send any, of course.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Announce: SpamWordBlock pluginThat was it. I deleted the blank lines and now it works.
Thank you!Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Announce: SpamWordBlock pluginIt suddenly stopped working on me. Now when the plugin is activated, all comments are blocked with “spam words found.” I have to deactivate the plugin to enable comments.
My web host did some maintenance recently. I don’t know exactly what was done. The PHP version is still at 4.2.2, just what it was before.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: How to delete 3400 spam comments?If you’re desperate you could export to a text file, delete the comments in a text editor (or Excel), and import back to MySQL. There’s got to be a better way, though.

In reply to: Spam Filter that DOESN’T moderate comments?Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Announce: SpamWordBlock pluginDeactivate/activate didn’t work.
phpinfo says I have PHP Version 4.2.2. That must be why.
My web host should upgrade at some point.
Thanks!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 1.2.1 upgrade error…Run a test script to make sure the SQL username and password you are using work. Put the following into a text file, test.php, and upload to your web host. Then run it by going to that file in your browser. If you get error messages, it’s not working. If not, it works.
<?php
$mysql_server = "localhost";
$mysql_user = "username";
$mysql_password = "password";
$db_name = "databasename";
print "Credentials for MySQL entered.<br>";
mysql_connect ($mysql_server, $mysql_user, $mysql_password);
mysql_select_db ($db_name);
print "Connection to MySQL database attempted.<br>";
?>
