We also encountered this and disabling Recaptcha fixed it. We are not using any custom login paths or any plugins that mess with login.

There’s been no change on the site and the recaptcha has been turned on for a couple of years for it to fail just in the last few days.

I can confirm it’s related to jQuery migrate – we remove this via WP Rocket routinely. Turning it on again fixes the issue.

It would be great if could build in basic support for the browser checking feature to not load unless jQuery migrate is found – that would stop the error from effecting sites, as having jQuery migrate dequeued is a common performance technique.

We remove jQuery migrate on most of our sites with WP Rocket as it doesn’t tend to break anything in our experience

Seems like IE10 is the main culprit for us – site caching then brings the issue to ie11 in our testing (but not to Edge). Clearing the cache makes the IE issues go away in ie11. But if ie10 still has intermittent issues.

We had a client report a very similar issue today. We can’t reproduce it and are trying to get the version of IE from the client.

They have sent screenshots so I know it’s what they are seeing. Seems to be only on certain pages on the site.

We are also having this issue – With the client site it found an old gravatar image and we couldn’t update it anywhere – it’s like it’s cached somewhere and with our test site all we got was a blue gravatar default icon and no combination of email addresses on gravatar with icons attached would get the blue to go away.

There is a simple development fix that automattic could do and that is to allow to choose a default image instead of a gravatar – that would make all the pain go away – in the meantime we can’t use this feature
