Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, QTranslate is not supported, so our plugin won’t automatically generate the additional sitemaps. This issue could be a potential opportunity for improvement for the QTranslate authors.

This is not our plugin’s default behavior. Have you tried disabling or using an alternative AMP plugin to address this issue? I would consider reporting this issue to the AMP plugin author or changing the implementation if this is a custom implementation.

Thanks for your question. The number of sitemaps is determined by your site’s total number of pages, how they’re organized, and so on. Sitemaps will be ordered from most recent to oldest in the next release. Typically, the number of sitemaps stays mostly the same, and regardless, the use of a single sitemap index allows for changes in your settings or content to make it easy for search engines. All of the above are best practices.

There appears to be a conflict with rewrites that may cause this issue. To confirm, when the plugin is disabled the .htaccess errors stop?

Do you have a staging or test area where you can disable other plugins and use one of the default WordPress themes to see if there’s a conflict causing this? If not, please consider trying the latest release on GitHub, which features a new user interface for configuring features like excluded posts.

I’ve never seen Duplicate without user-selected canonical error for sitemap.xsl because it’s not included in sitemap files by default, and no one submits it normally. I suggested removing it from the index.

@erdinan a similar issue was fixed in the past. About how many pages are you adding at once?
