In reply to: My site has been down all dayYes, I renamed the plug-in folder, but it didn’t fix anything.
I’m having my host rename my theme right now, but I highly doubt it’s the theme now, from what I understand.
I just don’t understand how simply typing my post on my computer – and doing absolutely nothing else – would cause a fatal error like this. As it is right now, my host is telling me I have to start all over. In my mind though, I would rather figure out what caused the error so I never repeat it again. It just makes no sense to me at all. I was literally typing my post one minute. When I was ready to preview it, I hit the “Preview” button, and it wouldn’t load – and from then on, my site was gone.
I forwarded Jan’s message to my host (who happens to be my father-in-law), and he said that what she suggested was not the issue – I have no idea.
He also changed the plug-in folder, with no change.
Yes, I do think I should move this post – since it’s not a theme issue. My father-in-law (who can also be very stubborn) just suggested to me that it could possibly be the theme, which is why I posted here to see what I could find out. I was really disappointed when he suggested that, because the Asteria Lite theme is by far my favorite I’ve ever come across. Now that I understand it better, I am definitely sticking with Asteria Lite when this gets resolved, since I now know it’s not the culprit. Sorry for posting this in the wrong place. I will continue the conversation on the previous thread you linked to. ??
Thanks!!Thank you so much for your response! I’m a sincere newbie here, so I had no idea what the error codes meant – I’m just trying to blindly troubleshoot, with no access to my account. I’m so sorry I assumed it might be your theme, when you are not at fault at all!
From what I’ve read, 504 Gateway Errors can be somewhat difficult to troubleshoot. Do you happen to have any idea what could have triggered it, when all I was doing was simply typing up my post on my computer, when my site crashed? Is there any way for me to figure out what I did, so that I never repeat the error? I know this isn’t your job, so I completely understand if you don’t reply. However, I would love your opinion if you have the time.
Thanks so much!

In reply to: My site has been down all dayNo, my host is MediaTemple. They tell me it’s something that I did, but I don’t know what that would be. I’m sorry you’re having trouble too. It is so frustrating.

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt?Well, thanks for the advice ??
I found the answer:
I added
/trackback/
to the end of the url I wanted to ping.
My post showed up instantly in their comments.
Just in case anyone else has this problem, try that, since it’s an easy fix.thanks

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt? No, they are definitely allowing pings – that’s the whole point of the prompt. Here is what is posted directly before the comments section on the Daily Prompt page:
“Comments are always closed on prompts. Pingbacks are enabled; if you link to the prompt post on your blog, your post will appear in the list below the prompt.”
If they trashed the first ping in error, possibly, but like I said – it just happened again today.
I just pinged them a few days ago, and it worked just fine. Now it doesn’t. I’m sure you’re extremely busy, so I’m sorry for coming to a “support forum” for help. I will fix it myself, and I’ll contact the site owner on wordpress, like you said – although when I did that earlier they told me to come here for help.
Am I misunderstanding what this forum is here for? Isn’t this where we come to troubleshoot problems we are having with our websites? My problem is, my pingbacks or throwbacks – whatever you call them – are not working. Just change this title to “Pingbacks and Trackbacks Not Working”, and forget about the wordpress thing. Is this not where I come to troubleshoot that?

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt?ok, the same thing just happened again.
I just wrote a post, replying to this Daily Prompt:
https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/21/daily-prompt-safety-first/Here is my post on my website:
https://lipstickandlithium.com/watchful-eye-reply-daily-prompt-safety-trigger-warning/I entered the daily post’s above url under the “send trackbacks” heading, then hit “publish”. It tells me that the url was pinged.
But, my post is not listed in the comment posts, on the daily prompt page. Something is not working. I can’t think of any settings I have that would prevent them from getting my post. Are there any plugins that I could unplug that are known to prevent pingbacks or trackbacks, or whatever you call them? Is there something that could be in my settings (other than the list of things that are already checked in above comment) that’s not right, that would prevent pingbacks or trackbacks? Forgive me if I use those terms interchangeably, I’m not too sure I understand the difference.

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt?I wrote a post in response to the Daily Prompt Perspective page
I entered their url under the “send trackbacks” section of my post. It tells me that they were pinged. However, my post is not showing up in their comments. I did the same thing several days ago, and my article was listed under their comments. I’m confused as to what I did wrong, or why it’s not working this time around. As far as I know, I didn’t do anything different.
Also, all of these are checked under my settings:
Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article
Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)
Allow people to post comments on new articlesI’m sorry if I’m not making sense. ??

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt?Just to be sure we’re on the same page – I am the site owner, and my theme is Luminescence Lite. I realize you are not associated with the Daily Prompt on wordpress.com – my problem is with pingbacks that are not working on my site. I was simply using that reference as the example of my pingback problem. Sorry if I worded it wrong. If you could direct me as to where to post this, I’d appreciate it, because it needs to get fixed. Thankyou.

In reply to: Pingback not working for WordPress Daily Prompt?I should also note, that within that same post that I wrote, my own website was pinged by a link to a different article of mine that I linked to – so I know that the pingbacks are working. I received the pingback as soon as my post was published.
Does the Daily Prompt have to authorize the pingbacks before they post? Thanks for putting up with a newbie. ??
