If Twitter.com is asking you for a phone number when you are creating a new account, It’s probably used for security purposes. Either way, that is an issue you have to solve with them, not us.
Our Twitter Feed plugin is absolutely spam free.

If you are using the customizer to add widgets, the buttons will not work. You can add widgets from Appearance->Widgets.

Yes, the tweets are rendered on the backend, so a refresh is required. The benefit of that approach is that the data is crawlable by search engines.

There is an API, the online documentation for it is simply not ready yet.
Take a look at app/functions.php. You can see 3 functions that can be used globally:

static_tweets( $options );
scrolling_tweets( $options );
sliding_tweets( $options );

The functions are heavily documented, so you can learn how to use it from there.
I will do my best to publish an online documentation for it.

I developed this plugin for the very same reason – existing plugins usually use shortcodes or some other syntax that prevents you from switching to a different plugin later on because of the difference between their syntax.

Mivhak is using those HTML tags that were meant for that purpose, instead of reinventing the wheel.

This error message usually corresponds to a Twitter username that does not exist. Make sure that you provide an accurate Twitter username.

I just tested it on PHP 5.4.19 and it was working properly. Do you have any special settings on your server? Could it be related to the theme or plugins currently installed?

This message indicates that an internal error has occurred in the Twitter.com servers while trying to process your request. It has nothing to do with your query or the plugin. It is a known issue: https://twittercommunity.com/t/get-search-internal-error-code-131/10639

The theme files (CSS) are being loaded from a CDN, they are not included with the plugin. I guess I should add an option for “no theme” to allow you to override the styles. In the meanwhile, I think adding !important to your CSS rules should override the default CSS rules.
