Well – that was interesting. I see my post above having the actual link (listed as xls) and it connects from the support post. I typed your code in to the post and it showed as a blue “xls” link. wondering about security on that – although another user may not see it like that as I am logged in to my post.

TCR – I do have it working now. Thank you. Some of the jargon is new to me – I copied it in while I was in text mode, deleted some of the other stuff on the line and voila! (the code page = text mode I guess)

    Thanks again.

TCR – I appreciate your patience with me. I am just saving the post as a draft at the moment. The gview code below was obtained by clicking the media button. This works fine – but I see an image of my file as well as a link to the file – and if I click the link the file opens fine from the hosting site.

If I add your suggested code it looks like a link (with all of the text) which if I click I get a “Forbidden” screen. At one point (which I do not seem to be able to go back) I had a link called “xls” and it worked.

Thanks – but could not get it to work properly. Spent quite a bit of time with it. I am tempted to leave it with an image of the file as well as a link to the file. Not ideal.

At there references on the syntax you provided?

Hi – thanks. I do use Perl a little but this was more than I could spend time on – but it was good to know about this. I downloaded the code from cpan but then it seemed like more work than I needed.

Changing themes fixed the side menu bar problem. That was a pity but maybe it was a 3.5.1 issue with that theme (minimal).

I fixed the link problem by copying and pasting into MSWORD, hitting enter to make sure it showed as a link and then copying and pasting it back. That took care of it.
