Can you use the file manager and edit your config.php to enable debug mode, with that on, it will point you in the right direction to see what the issue is, and what is calling the error 500.

No, you won’t have to give him the details. you will just need to chown the files to the www-data again. i also had this issue after updating.

“$defalt_arg” Seems to be a typo. i’m guessing it should be “$Default_arg” ? Edit- my apologies, please delete this post.

it happened to me when i updated an image widget, but if i am totally honest, not a clue! Just check it every couple of months to make sure it’s where it needs to be ??

It may just be a question of time, and waiting until the domain points to the host, im assuming the hosts did this for you. if you’re still having trouble in a couple of hours, pop a support ticket in and ask them to lend you a hand with the DNS.

If you can find the IP address of the box, you can use that instead of the url and it will connect fine . for example 111.111.1.111/yoursite/yourpage.html will still connect you to the right page if you find the right ip and if you are desperate to get your site sorted asap.

Settings>Reading. Make sure it’s set to static page, and not posts.

That link takes me to the domain’s placeholder, it looks like it isn’t pointed at your website yet.

Okay, and may i ask why you switched hosts? Starting to think it could be a host issue, if it’s not the cache that is the problem. What caching plugins do you use?

Just did a quick google, and apparently hostpapa are known for having very slow servers, and then blaming the client for not optimizing properly.

Waiting usually means it’s waiting on one very important file before it can load everything else after it, so looking at the item that goes to load first should point you in the right direction as to what it is exactly that is loading slow. it may sound silly, but have you cleared your browser cache, and/or web cache?

Okay, turns out the problem was an undefined call to “WP_FOOTS” in the footer, which threw the whole site into disarray. after doing some digging, it seems to be the part of the script that did the spam links, but as i’d already removed the other parts, it just sat dormant. So if anyone has this problem, check your footer again ??

Still got this issue, so it doesn’t seem to be an error with the hosts, so i’m not too sure what to do :/. i’m still getting “501 errors” but my website is still up, so surely it can only be the admin bar that is broken, yet sucuri is saying the entire site is down.

You either need to use FTP, or file management from your host panel to get it back up and running. chances are if it died after an update, you have a plugin conflict, so you can go in, and rename your plugin folder, which should let it start. im still pretty new to wordpress though, so i’d wait for better advice ??

Backups would be a last resort to be honest, as i’d have to jump through a lot of hoops to get in contact with the person that has them, but yes gaz, i do believe we have some, i will start looking into it, but it would be great if anyone else has any other ideas. Thanks though Gary ?? -Ryan
