I think it depends on how your wordpress is configured. It won’t work with wp2.7/php5/mysql4, the whole widget page is gone…
Wich configuration do you have?

Ok, ‘tested’ (live) it myself on this configuration:

php5
msql4
wordpress 2.7
gallery2.3
wp-gallery-remote 1.5.1

… and it works fine!
