In reply to: problem with password-loginBack where I started. I gave the blog a name in one of the installation steps, then got to a corrupted blog page in a different directory with no stylesheet and no log-in access.
It may be time to hang up my spurs on this WP installation and wait until the process becomes less PHP dependent.
Thanks for your help along the way. I just can’t sort out the WP start-up routine right now.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: problem with password-loginOK. That’s helpful and it looks like I’m getting closer to actual WP installation.
After making it through Step 3 of the installation process, I came to a dead-end page with this error (repeated for subsequent lines):
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/webjam/public_html/whirred/wordpress-1.0.1-miles-FIX/wp-config.php:29) in /home/webjam/public_html/whirred/wordpress-1.0.1-miles-FIX/wp-login.php on line 109.
I know this may be just as maddening a process for you as it is for me. Let me know if it gets too annoying. :/Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: problem with password-loginThanks for the suggestion. I have deleted the whole works — WP directories and MySQL DB.
Before going back to the same place of no-return again:
When I’m using the WP installation program, how can I choose the directory name that I want to use for WP rather than the generic “wordpress-1.0.1-miles”?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: problem with password-loginThanks, MDV. I suspect that this is the global problem with the stalled installation itself. How do I fix it??? (Or would it be better to delete and start over?)

In reply to: problem with password-loginForgot to add: I cannot log-in at all on the stalled blog installation.

In reply to: problem with password-loginI have a similar problem with my randomly generated password not being recognized by WP.
To clear the cache, I exited FireFox and restarted. (I’m new to FF, Help Files not working, and I couldn’t find a ‘clear cache’ command in the program itself).
Even though the installation routine would not accept my password, it appears that the WP Blog was installed — but with no active reference to the stylesheet. Any suggestions on how to correct this and install the rest of the program?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Working WP 1.0.1 InstallerI’m glad to see the discussion and development continuing here. Thanks for the effort in making the Typo3 installation task easier and more direct, Spacemonkey.

In reply to: Working WP 1.0.1 InstallerProviding a helpful fix for installation of the Word Press program is a good idea.
No offense intended to Spacemonkey, but can anyone here vouch for the security of this zipfile from a first time poster offering downloads from a brand new site?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: What permissions?Same issues here.
I don’t know PHP but I followed the “5 minute install” instructions (several times) to the best of my ability. Tried editing the wp-config file. Still getting No permissions and 404 errors.
I’m teetering between studying the PHP manuals from scratch or giving up on the installation nightmare altogether. Surely there is an easier way to install this program.
