    Issue resolved.

    The problem:
TinyMCE and TinyMCE Advanced Professsional Formats and Styles plugin.
Removed plugin and was able to resume normal operation.

I had this same problem after upgrading to WP 4.4.1. I did all of the basics such as deactivating all plugins and reactivating them without any success. The only thing I did not do was to reinstall the 4.4.1 update.

I could insert images into the media library but could not insert a image into a post using the add media button. A work-around is to select the image in add media that you want to insert into your post. In the Attachment Details that pops up on the right, copy the address in the url box. Next click the insert from url hyperlink on the left and paste it into the url address box then click the insert into post button at the bottom of the page. This is a little extra work but it will insert the image into your post.

Again I am probably exposing my ignorance as this is my first attempt at maintaining website and I am stumbling around not really knowing what I am doing.

As the issue of WordPress I am using is installed on a host server and the only thing I can do is to uninstall WordPress from my account manager. It is apparent there is a way to remove these files but I do not know what it is. I’m sorry I do not know much about the technical end of the issue.

I didn’t think I did what you asked. There are not any plugins installed and when I set Twenty Thirteen as default I loose even more of the editing tools. I’m still not sure that I am doing as you ask. I’m sorry I am a newby and have been using wordpress just a few months, and I do not know exactly what I am doing.

The only theme that comes close to having all of the editing tools is Modernize. The rest eliminates some more of the tools instead of adding them.
