Thank you for the plugin link, Chris. I contacted the developer and he helped me track down what was wrong. You can apparently use it for single-page feeds if you trick it– but making the single page you want a child of another page, and linking to the rss of the parent page. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks again!

I just installed the plugin (yay) and the main page seems to work like proper rss for all the pages on the site:

Bizarre.. not sure why the rss feeds are behaving inconsistently?

Under Settings/Reading what happens when you change Front page displays –> Your latest posts?

I just was having an invisible 404 problem and did that, and suddenly my 404 works fine.
