That hasn’t fixed it. However, it looks like a different issue so I’ll raise it in the Pro support forum on your site rather than divert this thread. (Assuming I can’t sort it out myself.)

It’s partially back, but not loading CSS (plenty of “Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID” errors) and the plugin update fails with an error “PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10): Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature”.

Still down at 1100 BST, with plugin updates etc from the WP dashboard also affected.

From memory, it cleared two, then on a second click it cleared two again, then on a third click it reported none to clear. No update even after a couple of hours. Site is at https://www.nationallibrariesday.org.uk/ with v2.3.8 installed. It’s working fine on all the sites on our server, but this a client’s site on the client’s server…

Same here. All locks cleared, no updates. Switched to HTTPS and it reverted to Tweets from a week ago.

See, this is where being CSS-and-HTML-only lets me down. I didn’t know do_shortcode even existed…

I had this happen earlier this week, it can be caused by problems with your functions.php file – blank spaces at the end I seem to remember is one possible cause. There weren’t any in my case, but just editing the file and re-saving solved the problem.

Thanks – worked a treat for me, too, on a site where the installation is in the root rather than in a subdirectory.

It’s OK – I’ve found a work-around now. Ugly but successful.

Well, nothing broke. It changed all the database entries to match the posts that worked – but it didn’t fix the problem. Must be something else to it too.

Hi Shane, thanks for this tip – but 755 recursive permissions covers A LOT of files in themes and plugins and uploads. Can you narrow it down a little for us, or at least advise on the security implications of leaving it that way?

Really don’t know what to make of this.

Haven’t tried that, but when you preview a page the permalinks don’t apply – you effectively get the default. And it works then. So I think the answer is, yes, default will work and it’s a permalink problem. BUT those exact permalink rules work on other sites, and different permalink rules fail on this one. Also, all other permalinks – pages and categories and authors and so on – work. So the problem likely isn’t the specific rules but something wider about the way they apply.

Nope, tried that. Completely wiped the htaccess file clean, regenerated the permalinks entry from the WP dashboard, and it still didn’t work. Have now reinstated the previous one.
