It is a small point, but the arrows for next/previous look DOS-like to me. I’d prefer a simple chevron like the one that Facebook uses, though not over the image.

You are probably correct. I have a wordpress.com login and the reader on it shows the blog I want to follow. I did try to use the wordpess.com contact page but it did not like me either giving my non-wordpress.com blog address, or none at all, and suggested I ask here. There is a box to tick “I don’t have a blog”, which would be untrue, but I might try it anyway, as it probably means “I don’t have a wordpress.com blog”.

Mikey118’s method worked for me, but the image presented as a link to the image file, which I didn’t want.

Reducing
<a href=" ... .jpg">
to
<a>
removed the link.
