I turned off all minify CSS and Javascript in Siteground Optimiser but to no avail

Please explain to me one last time, why does the caption not show when there is one? I think the reason is (in this case) that it is only one word.

I realise that you think you have explained but your explanations do not correspond to the facts

This is from your text above – what is the difference between fan2 and fan

They both have no title but a caption but one shows the caption and one does not – you have not explained why and I cannot see any difference in your data below

“Enable default title” option is?globally disabled. It is not disabled for one page and not the other? Anyay even if it was, I am not trying to show the title. I do not want to show the title. I want to show the caption

There is only one image, if you mouse over it you will see the caption is “fan2”, but if you click on it, there is no lightbox caption displayed

You seem not to understand the problem that I am describing to you, instead you are giving me an explanation for a different problem

I am happy for SLB to display the caption. In both the images I have shown you there is a caption and not a title. This problem is not about the title

In the link that I have given you previously, you will see 2 images which are screen grabs of the attachment page from the media library

Neither have a title

The first one has a caption “fan2” i.e. one word

The second has the caption “fan .” i.e. 2 words or something with a space character in it

When you click on the first image to bring up the lighbox effect, you will see, at the bottom of the screen, for the first image:

“item 1 of 2”

and for the second image

“fan-. item 2 of 2”

So you can clearly see, that the caption is not displayed for the first image but is for the second. SLB seems to have put a “-” character where the space character was

Does this make it clearer for you?

It is not the “title” SLB is looking for but the “caption”

Another slight “bug” is that the caption is not displayed if it is a single word.

e.g. “Fan” does not display but “Fan .” does

It seems you are looking for a space character?

and I have just found out why, I had

“Defer Render-blocking JavaScript
Defer loading of render-blocking JavaScript files for faster initial site load.”

turned on in Siteground Optimiser and that f***ed things up

I have turned it off and SLB works again

The captions work but not if I have editted the images using WordPress Media

Today, the lightbox function is only working when I am logged in….

OK, if the Caption has one word, Simple Lightbox cannot find it or refuses to show it, so if the caption is “Fan” it is not shown (item 27) but “Fan x” is displayed. Item #2 caption is “Dicranopteris” which is not displayed

OK, I changed the page displaying the images to be on the subroutine and now it finds the caption on most of the images but not all. I had thought that it could not find the caption on images where I had used WordPress Media to rotate the image as in image #1. But image #2 has not been altered and it also does not show the caption

I realise now that I am using Simple Lightbox on my main domain (ebps.org.uk) but I have stored the images on my subdomain (payments.ebps.org.uk)

Would this be the reason the captions are not showing?

I disabled all the plugins and turned off all the caching I could find but could not see the titles

Can you narrow it down further for me?

I am on Siteground and they have on the server NGINX DIRECT DELIVERY, DYNAMIC CACHE and MEMCACHED. I can turn off NGINX DIRECT DELIVERY and MEMCACHED on the server. I have their plugin SG_OPTIMISER and can turn off Dynamic Caching, File-Based Caching and Memcached but this did not work. I do not think I have other Caching

I cleared the Chrome browser cache

I have turned everyrthing back on but if you need to test it with these things switched off we would need to organise a time slot
