In reply to: need for correct UTF-8 in databaseOk, just to let all know, the solution in the post cited above works. I didn’t have to convert my DB, but changing the connection from WP to the database made things work more as expected.
The problem with ubernyms, though, is not related to this, as i found out later. Ubernyms stores (to this date) the text to be in the tooltips as HTML entities, which is inapropriate to deal with UTF-8. I have posted a comment in the plugin homepage about it.

In reply to: need for correct UTF-8 in databaseVery helpful, thank you so much. I will try the solution described there.
I think i will also file a request in the trak so that the setting for UTF-8 makes WP connect to the DB already in UTF-8.
I agree, this should be default!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: RSS dates at 2014 !I think it has nothing to do with FeedBurner, because i run a local copy of my site (for testing purposes) and the 2020 dates show when i go to the plain local feed page.
Any ideas what could be causing this inside WP?

In reply to: i18n – is the 2.0 POT ready? Thanks moshu, i already subscribe, but there was no oficial release through the list. Some language packages are being made available though, so i would also suppose the 24th POT is the final one, but i thought i would check first.

In reply to: permalink generation incorrect?Allright, what i tried failed completely. All i can say is, you were right! No surprise here.
Anyway, just would like to leave the observation that for a complete i18n, the default category base and author base should be configurable (same goes for the words “search” etc generated by the permalink structure…)

In reply to: permalink generation incorrect? But i do want the link, i just don’t want the word “author” in english! It is as simple as removing the H from author.
Thanks againForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: permalink generation incorrect?I think i just found out that i would have to edit classes.php , which is somewhat an adventure (that is, if i want the links formatted as i said above, it would require me to hard-edit the default category base and author base).
However, i think this could be an issue worth looking at for a complete i18n of WP, as to a non-english-speaking reader something like “author”, “feed” or “search” is as criptografic as ?p= in the URI.
Thanks Beel! I will post this to the appropriate mailing list.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Removing the Paragraph tagsThe plugin is causing a lot of “headers already sent” errors in the admin interface (not in the homepage, though). Using 1.5.1.2 here…

In reply to: Guiding SearchBotsHi,
i realized i have a problem with my blog and thought i would use this thread to ask about it, since it is related to search engines.
The problem is the main subject of my site is taijiquan, which is a chinese word. Using an older but more popular transliteration system, it can be written “taichichuan”, and there are more variations. But as i chose to refer to the subject by the current standart spelling, i am losing a lot of traffic.
The meta keywords tag seems to have been practically deprecated by major engines, so i have been thinking about what i can do.
Do you think that it would help to write the alternative spellings inside a spna, and hide then span with CSS?
all help is much appreciated!
