  • Thank you, I switched themes and could reproduce the issue. I’ll look into it.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

I’ve just spent some time following your reproduction scenario and I’m afraid for me it works as intended. Here’s what I did.

    • Installed and enabled Auto Submenu plugin
    • Create a page titled “Menu”
    • Create a child page “Submenu 1”, which has parent “Menu”
    • Create a child page “Submenu 2”, which has parent “Menu”
    • Create a child page “Submenu 3”, which has parent “Menu”
    • Create a child page “Submenu 4”, which has parent “Menu”

    Current state of menu:

    • Menu
      • Submenu 1
      • Submenu 2
      • Submenu 3
      • Submenu 4

    Next, I updated “Submenu 2”.

    • Click “Edit” for “Submenu 2” child page
    • Renamed the title to “Submenu 2 updated”
    • Pressed “Update”
    • Inspect the menu

    Current state of menu:

    • Menu
      • Submenu 1
      • Submenu 2 updated
      • Submenu 3
      • Submenu 4

If the problem persists, could you please provide more information on which steps to take to reproduce it?

Please note, in my above scenario I have not used the “Order” field. If you set the page order, WordPress should still honor that.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

    Thank you for your message.

It’s true that when the child pages are updated, they are updated in the menu also, but what you report indeed isn’t what I intended. I’ll investigate what’s going wrong.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

    Thank you for your message.

    I’m sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I didn’t get a notification that there was a new topic.

Could you help me in reproducing this issue? I’ve tested the plugin and didn’t encounter any errors myself.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

No, the plugin only works with Appearance > Menus or Appearance > Customize

    Diana

@dpontillo I’ve received your support request via my website contact form. I’ve replied to your message via e-mail and will offer you support for the Free version via that route.

    Hi David,

if you save the menu again, does that help? Or does the problem persist?

I’d love to figure out exactly what went wrong but I’m not sure what avenues we could pursue here. It’s curious that the choice of theme somehow is involved. Perhaps the theme also edits the menu somewhere.

It seems you have only one category, in the menu, right? That suggests that it’s not much work to recreate the menu. In that case, could you try uninstalling CPCM entirely and reinstalling it? Completely uninstalling CPCM will clear all data from the database, so if any old values from CPCM persist, they should be wiped. Then, if you’d reinstall CPCM and put back that one category, if the problem is resolved we know it’s on my side and I’ll re-test upgrade path. If the problem is not resolved, then it’s likely that there’s something the matter in the theme.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

Hi David, thank you for your message and demonstration video.

I’ve briefly checked in my test environment with themes: Twenty Twenty, Twenty TwentyOne, Twenty TwentyTwo as well as Maxwell theme. The functionality works as intended there (in my test environment anyway).

Just a quick question: Did you upgrade from 1.3.0 t o 2.x? Or is it a fresh install? (Please note the breaking changes in 2.0)

Could you share with me how you configured CPCM in Appearance > Menus? Let’s see if we can find a reproduction scenario.

Also, how many menus do you have configured in Appearance > Menus? I noticed just now that if I switch the theme, then sometimes the Menu selection switches to a different menu than the one I was currently working with. That can be rather disorienting. So, each time you switch the Theme could you verify via Appearance > Menus that the correct menu is still selected for display in your Theme?

    Kind regards,
    Diana

I have just added warnings in various places.

While doing so I saw that although the changelog did describe these changes, the changelog displayed the wrong version number. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that by fixing the version in the changelog and adding a warning in various places, the change is now much more clearly announced.

If you cannot accept these changes, I recommend you rollback to 1.3.0. Although I will not be maintaining 1.3.0 anymore, it has proven quite stable over the past years, thanks to the fact that the WordPress hooks and filters for the Appearance > Menus page have not changed.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

    Hi @weblwp,

yes, version 2.0.0 is a breaking change. Please see the changelog. From now on the Free version has less functionality than the Premium version.

I’m not sure how I could have added a notice. Edit: I don’t have a way to notify you in your admin dashboard but I can add a notice to the plugin description. I’ll do that immediately.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

I’d also like the images to have a uniform size. The Pinterest layout does not solve my problem

I think I understand. It’s a bit fiddly, but here’s what you can try:

Add category ‘Products’ to your menu and check “Create submenu…”. Set “Number of posts” to 1.

Then, in your menu, add category ‘Products’ AGAIN, but as a child of the one you just created. For this, also check “Create submenu…”. Set “Remove original menu item” to “Always”.

Hope I understood you correctly and that this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Diana

    Hi Nobuhle,

What do you mean by “if someone clicks on the menu an uncategorized post appears”>
What do you mean by “use this plugin on an existing menu”?

To use the plugin, go to Appearance > Menus. There, add a category to the menu and click the checkbox “Create submenu …”. There, you can combine the settings in various ways to get the posts for a category, with or without the category itself in the menu.

Can you describe what you want with a concrete example?

    Kind regards,
    Diana

    Hi trying-my-best and kellyhelp,

I’ve been trying out various combinations of menu setup in my test environment. At one point, I saw with the ‘roseta’ theme the problem that you are reporting. I saw that the CSS class ‘menu-item-has-children’ was not added correctly.

But then I played around with the menu some more and now I don’t remember the specific setup that gave the error. I will need some more time to figure out in what scenario this happens. I think it is some situation where a post has multiple categories, but I’m not sure

Do you happen to have a small example?

    Kind regards,
    Diana
