In reply to: how to install file in virtual subdirectoryFrom your link, the methods appear to be:
_____________________________________________________________
Add a meta tag to your home page (proving that you have access to the source files). To use this method, you must be able to edit the HTML code of your site’s pages.
Upload an HTML file with the name you specify to your server. To use this method, you must be able to upload new files to your server.
Verify via your domain name provider. To use this method, you must be able to sign in to your domain name provider (for example, GoDaddy.com or networksolutions.com) or hosting provider and add a new DNS record.
Add the Google Analytics code you use to track your site. To use this option, you must be an administrator on the Google Analytics account, and the tracking code must use the new asynchronous snippet.
_____________________________________________________________I have the site I need to verify in a virtual sub-directory. I don’t see I can use any of the first three methods.
I don’t understand the fourth.
Using a plug-in to upload the Google verification HTML file was mentioned previously. How does one do that? What plug-in?
Thanks.

In reply to: how to install file in virtual subdirectoryThanks for your reply Mika, but it went over my head. Google wants me to upload the HTML file they sent me. I don’t understand how to upload a file to a directory I can’t see. I normally FTP files to my websites.

In reply to: move WP database using MyPhp import ?Keesimeijer : taking your lead, I explored a bit further. I logged into my original blog’s wp-admin and then went to users.php and got this message “cheating, uh?”

In reply to: move WP database using MyPhp import ?Hello again keesimeijer
An hour later from my last post, I imported the old DB into the new install, and tried your recommendation, this time on the new install with the old DB imported.
I got the same error message : “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” — the same as when I tried calling up https://www.example.com/blog/wp-admin/plugins.php after logging into wp-admin.
The permissions problem seems to be traveling with the database ?
My goal is to get back to operating under a clean WP install with all the dashboard tabs showing, but also keeping the posts from the original blog, which I can’t access any more administratively thru the original WP install.

In reply to: move WP database using MyPhp import ?thanks for your quick reply here keesiemeijer !
my original problematic URL is https://www.example.com/blog/wp-admin
my new WP install is at https://www.example.com/wp-admin
following your recommendation, I logged into my original https://www.example.com/blog/wp-admin and going to plugins.php brings back this error message :
“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
I won’t be able to test the new blog until later since I’ll have to import the old database again. For the newer install at https://www.example.com I reinstalled the new DB so I could verify the dashboard tabs were coming and going with the DB installs.

In reply to: move WP database using MyPhp import ?and thank you keesiemeijer. I went with your first option and added the two lines to the wpconfig.php file — which worked.
I now have access the root directory/new WP install wp-admin function. Many thanks !
Unrelated to my original post, and I’m happy to start a new thread, what didn’t get fixed were the missing tabs in my wp-admin/dashboard
My original WP install in a site subdirectory had a problem with missing tabs. It only showed Posts, Media, Comments, Tools and unusually Profile.
Missing were Links, Pages, Appearance, Plugin, Users, Settings
I thought a fix would be to do a fresh WP install in a different directory and then import the old database.
Under the fresh WP install, all the tabs were present (except Profile, which I don’t think usually shows anyway). But they disappear again after the DB import. It seems like the DB import is bringing the problem with it.

In reply to: move WP database using MyPhp import ?thank you candell. How do you “find/replace” on the backup.sql file ?
@jessica or Ipstenua : where is “AllowOverride” ?
The solution to my similar issue as Jessica’s because the end webpage result looked the same (theme not showing; no dashboard access) : I relocated the .htaccess file to the subdirectory where WPMU was installed.
I’m experiencing what I think is the same problem as Jessica at one of my WPMU installs, but not at another.
The site having the problem also has some remnants of a non-WP php program, so I’m thinking conflicts are possible there, despite my having installed WPMU in it’s own sub-directory.

In reply to: No text formatting on Home pageUpdate : I solved my problem by hit and miss : deactivating an apparently conflicting plug-in solved my problem of no text displaying on my published page. ‘Hope this helps someone else troubleshoot their similar problem.
The original problem in this thread may still be unresolved.

In reply to: Automatic Upgrade PlugIn Is Now Obsolete ?Thanks very much MichaelH.
I feel good I contributed $$ to Keith’s plug-in while it was still needed. He did a nice job.
And now I feel good too that auto upgrade is an integral part of WP. One less plug-in to manage and worry about !

In reply to: No text formatting on Home pagePossibly a related issue, the text I have on my only published page doesn’t display on my WP blog?
Thanks anyone for pointers to what setting I may have wrong or ? ?

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress Automatic upgrade] Fantastic Easy Time Saving PluginThere are so many operating environments and program versions of this and that, that I marvel anyone even attempts to come out with this plugin. The manual instructions had me procrastinating about updating to WP 2.6.5 particularly since I have quite a few installs.
But happily add me to the list of success stories. I had no problems with this plugin. Many thanks to the authors. My contribution is on its way.

In reply to: Totally confused-MySql, installingIn the same cPanel, after creating the database and then the user, you then need to “add user to database”. Click on the box with those words right under the privilege selections and above “Access Hosts”. You should then see the connection strings.
