In reply to: Cannot access Admin area-fatal error messageI hate it when this happens. (I’ve had this type of thing happen more than once. As a matter of fact, just today I had a similar problem after making some changes. It’s not fun.
Just a side note before we go further, always remember to backup your database before doing upgrades.
Ok. There are a few things that we can do. My first step would probably be to use FTP to re-load the new template by hand, just to make sure it didn’t have a problem when it was loaded automatically.
If that didn’t work, I would then use SQL to resent the template and style, but if FTP gives you a headache, SQL will give you a migraine.
Contact me at upstartmediamarketing.zencart.com. I’ll see if I can help you get out of the bind.

In reply to: Upgrading to New Site, need best practice adviceThere are plugins that help you achieve better SEO, but when you are converting pages, as stvwlf mentioned, the previous pages are on a completely different server/database.
There is a plugin called redirection, which will help you do this. It provides a GUI so that you can put in the old filepath/filename to the new filepath/filename. However, each file has to be done individually.
The .htaccess file is still much simpler, and it does not require the additional code that the Redirection plugin would require. The .htaccess file operates at the server level and is very efficient.
stvwlf added the code that is simple to add. You can copy and paste many files into the .htaccess file very quickly. I have done this before and it is very efficient.

In reply to: Upgraded – Images are not resizingJust as a first attempt, I would try working with a different browser. It may be something strange happening.
Also, I would try restarting my machine, just to make sure the memory isn’t causing me anomalies. You may be surprised at what that solves.
Typically, there are two ways to edit a photo. One, you click on the image and then a little two icons come up on top of the image. One deletes the image; the other you can click to edit. That will bring up a different editor than if you click on the image and then click the editor button on the HTML menu. Try both.
The other possibility is that there is an incompatiblity with the hosting provider. I did notice that the website responded very slowly, so that might be a problem. I host all of my sites on a cloud server, and put my video clips on a content delivery network so that they will run faster and consistently.
It looks like you have a lot of great content and could do well to create your own domain. It looks like you are hosting as a subdomain of another hosting company. You might want to upgrade.

In reply to: How to have a different Posts headerHello b3nny_mac.
Most themes will have a particular way to see the themes. WordPress 3.x now allows you to have more than one template in your theme so that you can do exactly what you are suggesting. I activated TwentyTen on one of my demo sites and it doesn’t appear that TwentyTen theme uses that feature.
So, although WordPress is capable of doing it, the theme that you are using does not use that function.
You might want to check out the Genesis themes from Studiopress. Many (if not all) of those themes allow multi-template support. I use them all the time and love the framework, but they aren’t free.
I would be happy to give you a little more guidance if you need it. You can see what we are doing at https://www.upstartmediamarketing.com

I’m not familiar with the Events Manager plugin, but it is certainly a permissions problem. In the Events Manager, there must be some way to give groups different permission to see and/or edit events. You will need to all Subscribers the ability to see the events.
They may also set up separate group structure within the plugin as well. Check those permissions.

In reply to: Remove space between header and postI agree with vtxyzzy. You can do a bit by editing the style.css, but if you are trying to change the shape of your template, you’re going to get a bit deeper than questions on the forum.
You might want to explore a few more themes.

In reply to: Taking over editing/build of existing WP website from someone else? You can certainly re-build or even back and restore it to a new server?
Did they build the website on wordpress.com? or is it on another server? Can you use the same account and just take it over?
I would be happy to give you a bit more direction, cut I would need to know a few more details.
WordPress is a tremendously easy tool to work with. There is a small learning curve, but a basic website can be up and running quickly. It integrates very will with social media sites via a large number of plugins, some better than others.
Go for it and take control of your own website. It’s not that difficult.

In reply to: multiple databases or multiple tables?I haven’t used multiple tables. I have only used multiple databases. I just prefer to have a clean installation for every separate blog, so that if I have troubles, I don’t have a lot of websites down.
If your hosting provider limits the number of databases that you can use, I might be tempted to use multiple tables, but I might be even more tempted to change hosting accounts.
I run more than 30 websites myself and have set up countless others. I still prefer a clean, separate installation for each account.
If your interested, you might see what I have to offer, but I’m not trying to sell, just give you an option. https://www.upstartmediamarketing.com

In reply to: Can i add wordpress to Joomla?Joomla now has a plugin WordPress for Joomla. I haven’t used it personally, but the ratings are pretty good. I have installed many Joomla sites but now I use WordPress for a majority of the sites I install.
I also use a Joomla site with a WordPress subdirectory. It works ok, but even with good links back and forth, it can still be a little awkward for your user.
Plus, trying to get the templates and design to be consistent is a bit of a problem.
If you are not in a critical hurry, I might try the Joomla WordPress plugin to see if it integrates the design well. Also, if you have membership or other user login, you might need to consider the problem of having dual logins, a royal pain!!!
Think through carefully what you are planning to do with both parts of your website carefully before making the transition.
I’ll be happy to follow up the conversation if you need more info.

In reply to: Can I use shortlinks to links posts internally?I really like the plugin called RB Internal Links. It has a icon on the control bar. It allows you to internal link to posts, pages, and categories.
You can do it manually if you are a minimalist (likes to keep your plugins to a minimum), but I have found it to be a very handy plugin.

In reply to: Page Navigation ProblemI’m not good with the code and I’m not familiar with the Prestige theme or its developer/designer.
You said it works with twentyten. I would try two or three other themes to see if it is working there. If so, then I would contact the Prestige theme developer, if you can.
Send me more info and I’ll see if I can help.

In reply to: Widget Dragging is not workingThis might be a simple thing, but it has fixed several weird functional things for me.
Restart your machine. My older machine seems to need a little fresh start occasionally (two or three times in a tough work day.) If several things are happening, that’s even more reason to suspect the memory. Maybe it won’t help.
