Problem resolved.

Issue was with finding the proper index.php and then editing the the directory structure.

This did not work for me.
There are a number of index.php files within the structure of my chosen theme.

when exchanging, one gave a blank page, two others gave coded line errors.

No it was the index.php in the root of https://www.friendsoftemagami.org – a subdirectory of https://www.nastawgan.ca

Thanks but that did not resolve the issue. No resent plug ins to remove.

I should also note that besides the lost links to the calendar, archies and post and pages, I cannot post new information to the site.

Sorry about that. the wordpress site in question is:
https://www.mvc.on.ca/wordpress/index.php

I see now hat all navigation of this sidebar do not work and send me to the severs list of files within the wordpress directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
