It’s trivial to tell apache not to log a connection.Forum: Requests and Feedback
In reply to: Request for Comment: WP Phoning Homeanatman: i suggest that instead of sending the URL back, a MD5 hash of the relevant data is sent back instead. This way we can’t tell what the URL actually IS, but we can tell two differnt URLs apart. It’s not perfect, but it significantly reduces your identibility (not that that is a word) and lets us detect seperate installations by comparing hashes.
skippy: yeah, i originally thought integrating it into the install script would probably be the best place for it. ?? We could just have a button in the admin console that says “phone home” on it or something so you can ping back whenever you feel like, either once, never at all etc.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Ran Out Of MemoryThe memory usage of WordPress is quite high. 2 MB at least, per page. It probably spikes to more than that at times. This means that if you have a fairly high traffic blog, or your host has resource limits which are quite low, your probably going to have problems. I am 100% sure that the memory usage of WordPress can be reduced significantly. And i’ll say tentatively that perhaps it can be reduced to under a meg.
In the mean time there isn’t much you can do except reduce the number of posts and links on your front page. Sorry.Forum: Requests and Feedback
In reply to: Comment Spam StuffRantor’s idea certainly sounds rather nice actually. Clean and simple ?? I Like it. It’s not Bayesian spam filtering for blog comments, but it might be rather effecticve, for a time at least.
