    Thanks 1rico1 for the help.

As a beginner, does “altering the CSS” mean learning a complete new programming language or just learning how to find the right place and insert a few lines copied from a sample? – Or, paying someone who knows what they’re doing to do it !

Can the menu bar ever be superimposed on the header picture, or must it always be above or below?

OK thank you; are “window” and “screen size” synonyms?

Yes, that is the page I was looking at, and yes, I think you are right that it assumes I already have the theme available.

I value my website – took many years to obtain it (newtestamentchurch.com) so I am reluctant to part with it just for a theme I like. Is it true that any theme I find in the www.remarpro.com list might work for me by replacing the one I now have? Fine if I need to buy it, but I want to keep my domain name.

Thank you for supplying those addresses. Unfortunately, all email sent to them bounces back; apparently they also are terrified by spammers so turn away honest business in the process. It’s a strange world where businesses want to make sales and lock their doors. Something may turn up in time. . .

Not to prolong the discussion, but you may want to inquire why many sites that use the exasperating “protection” of this service have characters that apparently protect them from spammers and yet can be reproduced by honest people on the first or second attempt. I sat through 1/2 hour of smeared lines and other crude blotches trying to guess even one or two characters. Why should your registration be so much more unreasonable than theirs, when many of them have alternate ways to reach them in emergency (email, phone etc.) when, as far as I could discover, you offer none?

No it was a reference to the Capcha stuff that must keep heaven only knows how many interested customers out. I wasted an hour on what I referred to above as ridiculous and unintelligible scrawlings.

Thanks much. Sorry to sound stupid but this is the most confusing material I have encountered in my 70 years.

I clicked on the link you kindly supplied, and there are a few posts – months old – but nowhere can I find a place to ask the question you suggested. Am I just not seeing it?

    OK thank you.

When I enter the theme name I like (Axon) in the
    official WP.org theme repository,

it returns a strange word so must not be official.

If I did buy it, would questions regarding principles for building any website be allowed here, or is having an official theme a requirement? I certainly don’t want to pay for something I can’t get help with.

Thank you for the reply. In the screen “Appearance > Themes” there a 4 large boxes with pictures. The left-most one is Currents (my website) and is marked active. The other 3 “Twenty thirteen” etc. are all marked “Update available” Below them all is a simple box marked “add new theme”

When I hover over any of the 4, I do see the “activate” and “Live preview” buttons appear. But none of these are of interest to me for my website.

I see no “Trending”, “Popular” and “Newest” anywhere.
