It won’t make the search engines update your cached data, but it will announce that you made a change and bring the bots back to your site quicker.

There is no immediate way to order search bots to crawl,index and rank your site and to update your meta titles,tags and description. If you have the Google Webmaster Tools access you can adjust the crawl speed in that. But if you are curious to know when would you find the changes in Google you have made to your site, you will need to monitor Google’s crawl rate of your site.
