Great!
I will be waiting ??
Anything I can help, feel free to ask.
Thank you!
Hi Jordy,
Great to see that you are making efforts on this ??
But would this really be used? ??
If people understand what it does, I believe it will be used by the same users that are right now uploading Retina version for Original. So, if this users are uploading Original and then upload Retina for Original, with this Option they just need to Upload the Retina Version and (re)create the Original. No need to do it outside WordPress and upload 2 files.
This will be the 100% Automatically Retina, since with 1 file you will have all the versions with retina versions, including Original (Full Size image as WordPress call them).
Sorry, I don’t have Lightroom … Can’t you do this plugin to Photoshop?
Yes it will take time, and maybe never WordPress will implement it because this thing about Retina and Non-Retina it’s like an workaround for a Bigger problem that deserves a bigger solution.
Like you say, we need better specifications for how we deal with Pixels and Dots, and make all the media device and resolution independent.
Until them, we have your plugin and your excellent engagement!
Again, Thank You!
Hi Jordy,
Glad you appreciate my comments, and I’m happy I could help.
By using the @2x provided by the designer and a plugin such a this one, then everything works automatically.
Right now, having the @2x from designer don’t really works automatically, because it still misses the Original File becoming Retina automatically. But this is what we are talking about here, and I understand what you mean: automatically is for the Thumbnails versions.
The tutorial I wrote is for those people in the middle, curious but not strong developers, willing to do things well… might not be easy at first. I am not sure it worth it (I have many downloads everyday but actually few requests of people who don’t understand) but you could give a try and fix my tutorial ?? I wouldn’t mind!
Tutorial is enough and well explained. Maybe could have some more advanced explanation for advanced users. If I have time, I will try to send you some suggestions.
but definitely the plugin should check for the full-size retina if the full-size is not enough to generate the retina image sizes. I completely missed this.
If you just do this, it would be an huge improvement, even if you don’t implement the other suggestions.
Now about the solution one: tricky, I would need to hack WordPress core a bit for that one. It might not be clean, might not work forever with the WP updates. Dangerous.
Yes, it’s more tricky. From what I understand, you don’t want to have your Plugin to Upload the 1st image, right? It should be done by WP Gallery. And I agree also.
Solution two: of course, that’s what it should be! But I don’t think the original image should be re-created based on the retina full-size. Let’s say you have uploaded a 1000px full-size image. There is a 600px media size without retina (requires 1200px). You upload a full-size retina of 3000px (because you don’t like Photoshop or too lazy to resize it). The plugin resize it to 2000px (already does that) to make it really the full-size retina. Now the missing part is to create the retina for the 600px (1200px). This is not very difficult to add and I don’t even need to explain it anywhere. It should just be part of the core.
What about my modified solution two?
I think I didn’t explained myself well, since the solution I proposed is more simple.
Giving my example, right now with the Plugin we have to upload image.jpg with 1000px as Original, and then upload [email protected] with 2000px as Retina of Original.
So, my idea is to take the version with 2000px and rename it to “image.jpg” (don’t put the @2x), before uploading (on personal computer).
Then, we upload with Gallery this 2000px image, with the name “image.jpg” (for WordPress, this is my Original Image).
When I go to your Plugin, in the Column to Upload the Retina version for Original Image, we could have an extra Button saying “My Original image is already retina (2000px), because I just need that my original have 1000px. So, since I upload a 2000px version, copy Original image to a new file with the name “[email protected]” and after that change the size of my Original file from 2000px to 1000px, and leave it with the name image.jpg”. At the end, I just upload 1 image, and ended up with 1000px of Original and 2000px as Retina Version. This way I don’t need to do it on Photoshop and upload 2 images.
Hope you got what I mean.
I just proposed this way so we could use Gallery to upload a normal image, without changing WP Core (in contrast with 1st option). Your plugin just have to make changes on Files on Server, since Gallery just point file names (if you change the file size, Gallery still point to it).
Also, this will be a Button that if average users don’t understand, everything still works as right now. But at least, it gives the option to advanced users to Upload their Biggest Images they have, and treat them as Retina Versions and not Originals.
By the way, are you using Lightroom? (completely unrelated)
I use Photoshop CS6 to all major image processing. For lossless compression I use https://tinypng.com and https://tinyjpg.com
Thank for your cooperation and engagement! Congratulations for that ??

In reply to: [WooCommerce Facebook Like Share Button] Graph TypeHi,
Great, thank you!
Another Suggestion:
Sometimes, we have a landing page for a product with more details, like: https://www.example.com/myproduct
And then, we have the shop page for the same product like: https://www.example.com/shop/myproduct
Since this is the same product, we can see the shop page as a subpage, like IMDB have for reviews, etc. So, it would be great to have an option like:
“Remove the Woocommerce Shop part for URL”, so we have the OG URL like: https://www.example.com/myproduct.
That way, when someone like my shop page, is like liking my product page, that at the end, is about the same: My Product.
Hope you understand what I mean.
Some users may don’t realize that, but having different URL’s for the same product, will have different like on each page.
Thank you!
Alberto
